I've driven cabovers before, but I don't see how the driver could not have seen that.

The driver of the car came off the three lane slip road onto a three lane motorway and crossed over into the trucks lane via his nearside in his blind spot in what you guys call a compact (very small)

It seems the vehicles speeds were almost identical and as she pulled over in front of the driver and she brushed the corner of his bumper which pivoted her around and cushioned her impact. He probably mistook the bump for driving over one of the many pot holes we have on our dilapidated roads.

Other factors to consider are he doesn't appear to be a tall man, its quite gloomy and its raining, therefore his wipers would be on, even on intermittent the wipers at rest are three to four inches above the base of the screen. All this is compounded by the fact that car is dark in colour and from above would possibly merge into the wet tarmac ?

Fortunately I drive trucks with a front end mirror. So I hope I would have at least seen it in that.

Wish I didn't know this, but you can see that even in a truck with a hood, so he should have easily seen it in that truck

Not necessarily. In a cabover, you are higher than a conventional. Add to that the dash in front of you, and the other visibility-hindering conditions and it can be tough to see something that small that close to your bumper. If you ever get a chance, get in a COE and check it out. You'd be surprised how limited your visibility is right beneath the windshields.

Looks like a MAN TGA. Saw them when I was driving in South Africa, but never drove one, so I couldn't tell you how the visibility is from the cab.
As pointed out above, that truck was RHD (as they are also in South Africa and most of southern Africa, Ireland, Australia, New Zealand, etc.) and it was a very tiny car which made contact with the left side of his truck. I think it was Paula Zohn who interviewed the woman when I saw it on TV. Of course, she never bothered to ask how the woman got into that situation, nor was the truck driver interviewed. But, hey, nobody was hurt, and the driver got cleared. I'd say let it be a lesson learned to people who drive like idiots around big trucks, but, sadly enough, I doubt even the woman in the car will take it to heart.
