Truckers deserve what they’re worth. Some are worth far more than others.

Exactly. I’ve never understood why people think truckers deserve this or deserve that because we drive down the road every day.

I'm sure as a newbie handling a big truck seems like an insurmountable task, but as a guy that's been driving for 20 years I find many segments of trucking (and my current one) to be extremely boring and monotonous. No challenges or anything that requires much thought.

Not that we don't still require fair pay but for many once you learn it it's a pretty easy job

    $5k/week = $260,000/year

    • Careers paying anything close to that are:

    Airline Pilot
    Medical School Professor (Doctors)
    Forensic Pathologist
    Dentist
    Trial Lawyer

Now as a Trucker you can earn $5k/week but you have to Own the Truck (hence Owner Operator so the money is split to a 3rd) which comes with more responsibilities from Plates, Insurance, Freight Insurance, Fuel, Toll expenses etc.

I work for a Unionized Trucking company currently on a Regional route that started this week. When including meal subsidies I earn $1572.25/week. Away from home twice a week and company pays for a 5 star hotel (Marriott etc.) Can I complain?..it's a reasonable living for a trucker considering many are out of work these days due to covid 19.

I honestly don't think the op was serious about 5k a week pay. I could be wrong but i think he was just throwing a random # out there. Heck fire i personally would be happy with more money an who wouldn't be i guess. But as long as i got all my basic needs such as food , housing , clothing an ya know the necessities of life covered , than I'm golden.

    “Make 5k per week”

    Funny

    Gross net ???
When I ask drivers for details they normally can’t answer the most basic of questions.

Yea i think the 5k was just a random # pulled out of the sky. I don't see how anyone , even a newbie would think that , that would ever be a reasonable expectation as a company driver.

Heck i been out here over 20 yrs and I've learned to accept 60k gross a year. But it all depends on what one goes after i guess.

We now live in a society in which the majority believe they "deserve" a certain income and lifestyle because they managed to wake up and breathe air.
