    What do you pros think???

DETROIT (AP) — Truckers are warning that a government plan to electronically limit the speed of tractor-trailers will lead to highway traffic jams and possibly an increase in deadly run-ins with cars.

The government has proposed requiring electronic speed limiters on all trucks and buses over 26,000 pounds manufactured after the regulation goes into effect. Speeds could be limited to 60, 65 or 68 miles per hour when the rule is finalized after a comment period that ends Nov. 7.

Regulators say the rule is supported by simple physics: If trucks travel slower, the impact of a crash will be less severe and fewer people will be injured or killed.

Opponents say that ignores the dynamic of trucks and cars traveling at different speeds. Truckers argue that slowing them down increases the chances of trucks being hit from behind by cars going 70 mph or more.

More than 150 people, most identifying themselves as independent truckers, have filed comments with the government about the proposed rule. Only a few comments were in favor.

I'm against it, even though I'm governor already, but if you look at this from the general public's view, it seem like a good idea. And we know people makes law in the trucking industry without even driven a truck

If it just has to be, then 68 mph is a good compromise.

I'm surprised noone has mentioned that there already is a 'speed cap'.... it changes from time to time but it's generally posted on big black and white signs.
You know, the majority of speeding I see is governed rigs. Truck stop parking lots, going 10 over through rural towns or work zones... Mr. eLog trying to make up time.

This topic should really be getting more attention from the general public. Today, trucks are in the cross hairs. Tommorow it will be every other vehicle on the road.

The impact of a semi hitting a car can be just as great if even a 60 mph trk hit them it's all about not paying attention while driveing.
.Wonder what the next law when they see speed limiters don't work and then the industry will be forced to this law for good.

They just like to make new laws up to try and appease the general (believe everything they see and read on the news and not use on once of intelligence) public instead of enforcing the current laws already in place.

Force = mass × acceleration. Getting hit at 65 will be no less deadly than at 70. Either these lawmakers failed high school physics, or they are hiding their true reasons for pushing this law behind feel good bs excuses.
