Hi folks, new to the forum.
I'm sure this has been asked in some form before, but couldn't find a good thread.
I live in northern Florida, and am looking to get my CDL. My goaI is to become an owner-operator as soon as is reasonably (safely, competently) possible. I can afford to pay for trucking school myself, and have enough money set aside to buy my own truck. Is it best to go to school on my own to get the CDL, then find a job, or sign a contract with one of the firms, fulfill the contract then go out on my own?
Trucking company or school?

PAY for your schooling!
best of luck! -
Go with a private school and then hire on with a company such as Freymiller. This company will reimburse the private school tuition back to you. I'ts one of the best refrigerated companies around for new cdl graduates. Most runs are over 1000 miles.

Be a company driver for a couple of years. In the meantime, become a member of www.OOIDA.com to learn the business end of being an owner-operator and the cost of insurance.
