1. Attention employers: We now require a valid DOT# for anyone wishing to post a driving position. If your job offer doesn't contain a DOT number, it will not get past moderation and will not appear in the forum. The other requirements in the sticky at the top of this section are still required as well. Thank you for understanding.

I don't see the railroad making a dent out of the trucking industry. If you ever have the chance to watch them set up the staging for a long trip it is very time consuming. The freight has to be able to sit for a couple of days at either end. Then you have the transit time.

The end and start points are not going to be at areas that are acceptable to most shippers/receivers. Therefore, I believe it is not going to be a problem.

The way trucking is it is hard enough to say what will happen in a year, lone enough 10 years. Diesel will probably be $15.00 a gallon.:biggrin_2556:

Scary thought. Freight rates stay the same, what would the FSC be then.

At $15, FSC would have to be around $2.35 per mile.

I could see the companies not wanting to pass that amount on.

I could, there's no other choice, provided one still desires a profit.

Then again at $15, and thus transortation of goods becoming quite cost prohibitive via land/air/sea, maybe some of the manufacturing jobs in China and Mexico, might find there way back into the states.

Well i don't believe that RR can handle the amount of loads to take over long haul, and i agree that time sensitive loads cant be hauled by them. I believe rail shipping is more expensive too.

it's cheaper only by the volume they can haul. Just look at all the swift, schneider and jb trailers on the trains. That's all of our coast to coast we used to run 10 years ago. That was the trucking I loved not this 300, 400 mile BS

First I think it will be bad but face it. Trians can't pull in everywhere, plus its only a matter ok time for the environmentalist to start complaining about trains polluting the air. They think trucks use fuel look at trains. What really gets me is the fact diesel is a bi product of gas but its higher in cost. Its really a bad deal. Expecailly since i want to do this for a living. Why couldn't my dad be a lawyer or something big.Oh well I am happy with not being rich.
