Hello truckers, I've been in business for a year with new trucking authority and currently have my insurance through progressive. 2 trucks 2 trailers dryvan. 1mil 100k, when I first started they was the only one that was going to take me. 50k something for the premium. Now comes renewal time and the price jumped up for 106k. I don't know how I'm suppose to stay in business with this price. Any advice?

Shop around, Progressive is known for shady tactics. One claim and they cancel you. Or you CAN'T cancel the policy, for some hidden reason. You aren't alone, pal, and with situations like this, it's pretty clear the industry wants to do away with the little guy. My advice, either take it in the shorts, or try and get out. I sold my truck 25 years ago because I saw it coming.

Call an insurance broker and have them shop around.

Unfortunately you only have one year in. You may have a very hard time finding another company that will do it. Normally they like 2 plus years. I would try and get quotes myself from all the companies you can. Or go find a broker that can do it for you. Should not be hard to find out real quick If you are gonna have any luck or not.

Idk what will happen to the new guys if Progressive ever stops insuring them. They are the only company that does. I had them for years when I got my own truck and they always treated me right. My agent was an elderly lady that knew most of us drivers on a first name basis so that may have helped though.

If you're solely running spot freight you'd be better off shutting down until the market improves.

Not really. When you start back up you'll be new in everyone's eyes again. You can't suspend authority anymore and you can't keep it without insurance. If you stop your authority and restart you are new again in the eyes of everyone unless you find your own customers, which is a whole different set of challenges.

I did this once. It took me a year to get some of my old brokers, who I great rapport with, to let me run with them again due to their policies on new authorities which are driven by.......you guessed it, their insurance companies!
