Do employers call your school to ask them about your attendance record or other aspects of your performance?

My Story. I am currently going to a part time school. Two nights a week and all day on Sunday. This class lasts for 4 months. I graduate in less then a month Well my wife just got a new job and we are having a hard time finding a babysitter for our kids. I have missed 3 total days and I have made up the time ASAP. But it looks like I will be missing a few more days between now and graduation.

We were told by our instructor that companies do call schools to check on students attendance records. Is there truth to this? My situation will change completely in a few months when I retire from the Army and move so what is happening now will not be an issue in a few months when I start driving for a living.

    Thanks

They might but I doubt it. The only thing they really care about is some else got you your license, so it limits there liability. But I could be wrong. If you get the certificate it states you received 164 hours of instruction. I think thats all they care.

My employer didn't, but hear a couple of my classmates employers did. But they also ask about their parcepation in class too. So study hard and pay attention and let the instructors know before hand when your not going to be there. And I bet it won't be a problem.

It probably won't be an issue. Since you retire from the Army in a few months, you may need a refresher course anyway and that's what the company will look at along with your CDL school diploma. North Carolina is an excellent state for good trucking jobs, so start shopping around now if you plan to stay there after the Army.

I like my instructor, but just like everything else, I take it with a grain of salt. He has been teaching for 15 years. He knows his stuff when it comes to teaching my dumb ### how to back up a rig. But just like all instructors he has to keep his students in line. If that means telling us that employers will call the school to keep us from missing class then he has done his job.

All most companies care is that you passed, you have the minimum required hours (168), you have a valid CDL and a 'diploma' for the insurance company. They will conduct their own physical (or medical provider of their choice), do their own qualification test drive, then send you out with the masses and see if you'll make it.
The only reason they will call the school is to see that the 'diploma' isn't fake.
They don't care if you graduated at the top of your class or barely made it.
And no one, after your first employer, will ever care or ask where you went to school.

I can say this about that, back in the days (mid-1980's) when I was in school the employers would get to know our attendance record, and grades. Back then, employers wanted to know how many lateness's or absences one had as this would most likely reflect that person's "on time" deliveries and pick ups.

When I was in school I had perfect attendance, and graduated 3rd highest grade average. Nowadays? As long as one has a CDL, they get hired. Too bad the employers today no longer consider the things we old timers had to achieve.

Some of the hiring companies do call the schools. Not to worry if you got your CDL, but they'll want to know your performance, attendance, general information about you as a participant. When you get in a school, you'll do well. Just work at it, don't mess around, and you'll be Top Ten. Best!
