I was talking about non irrigated farm ground of any size close to the interstate, away from towns.

 

And the towns you’ve given as examples don’t have a need for truck parking. 90% of the people who post on this forum would probably freak out if they found themselves in Curtis or Elwood. Way too far off the interstate for the average new breed trucker.

 

I had posted in another thread about free land in NE, KS and IA. I suspect that’s where Mega-Nonsense got their information..

If you have the time someday you should drop down off 80 and run across through Curtis and Elwood. Way different scenery than being on the interstate. I always enjoy taking fuel to Curtis and Farnam.

 

You had problems with communication at both Western and Schneider, let's assume that it was 100% their fault. If you were in the same situations, how would you handle things differently to get a better result?

I know there's a difference between being a company driver and an o/o, but you're going to run into similar issues. How are you going to resolve conflicts so you get paid what your owed without burning bridges?

Another thing to keep in mind is that very few o/o net more than $125k unless they do specialized hauling (ie tanker/osod/etc). A lot of them think they do, but an honest look at their finances shows their net is before health insurance and doesn’t include capital replacement costs. If you're making $125k plus with health insurance and a decent 401k match, odds are you'll take a pay cut owning your own truck even if things go perfectly.

 

So was I. That's what plots along I-41 between Appleton and Green Bay were going for. Might be for 1/3 acres, but if that's what lands going for up here I can't imagine what it would cost someplace we actually need more parking.

Diesel on the west coast is $6 dollars a gallon. So, the simplest of math puts your fuel costs a $1 a mile.

DAT says left coast freight is @ $2.91. Minus your $1 miles fuel expense gets you $1.91. Pay yourself $.66 a. mile will cost you $1.00 with self-employment taxes. You now got $.91 cents.

Sideline $.25 CPM maintenance, $.04 for rubber, you'er left for $.62 CPM to finance equipment, pay insurance. Trailer prices have come down since covid, but new truck prices are at record highs. Insurance has never been higher. We will all be paying for years for the non-domiciled disaster. Interest rates?

We are in the seasonal upswing with construction and harvesting starting.

I don't know, but it sure sounds like the same crap, the same rates, I have been hearing for years.
