Anyone know what this is on this alcoa wheel? I tried cleaning it off but just some it comes off everytime. I’m trying to expose the aluminum so I can polish it.

Going to need some acid and heavy grit sand paper to do much of anything with those
Opendeckin, Lonesome, Rideandrepair and 4 others Thank this. -
That’s rough but I would start with an acid wheel cleaner and a scotch brite or maybe an sos pad… that wheel is going to need a lot of scrubbing…
Really it will need a serious sanding before you could even start to polish it… might be better off finding another used one that doesn't have a destroyed barrel.Opendeckin, Lonesome, Rideandrepair and 2 others Thank this. -
I had to deal with that on my lonestar recently. Acid, brillo pad, sand paper, rotarty sander, lots of polish, and several hours of effort. By the time it was done i had spent around $180 on supplies and even then it was still only meh at best. Honestly just buy a new/used rim in better condition. It will cost about the same by the time supplies and your time is factored in.

Looks like that wheel was run on the inside for a long time. Forget the polish, rough it up and paint it silver, like grandpas garbage cans,,.
OlegMel and Rideandrepair Thank this. -
STOP!!!
Those are Alcoa durablack rims, you can not strip it off
you have to replace the rims with none-coated rims.
If you use acid, you will weaken the rim.
If they are chipped, which it looks like it, contact Alcoa and ask them if they cover them under a waranty.Lonesome Thanks this. -
You’ll have to sand the dura black off, same as if you want to remove the coating on dura bright wheels.
lester Thanks this. -
I’d bet the cost of a new wheel that’s not a factory coated wheel. It is just a inside wheel turned around… you can tell around the lugs and hand holds in my opinion..Rideandrepair, Arctic_fox, Sons Hero and 1 other person Thank this.

Durablack wheels are uncoated around the stud holes like that.
Rideandrepair and Tug Toy Thank this. -
