you may be required to take a refresher course. Did you tell them that you already had your CDL?

So you've been out of trucking for 3 years? Don't know why they would want you to do the full training all over. Seems like a refresher course would be sufficent. Must be their company policy. Call and speak to a different recruiter. That's what i would do. Good luck to you.

Look into smaller companies.

I was getting the same line from the usual list of companies you all are mentioning.
I wasn't going to foot the bill for something like it.
I started talking to local smaller companies and found one with 26 trucks and they hired me. I spent a week driving with one of the local yard guys and then got into my own truck last week.
It's a company policy decision. I'd find another company.truckin101 Thanks this. -
Ok, to shed some lite on the retraining or refresher course for you drivers whom have been off the road for a short period of time. yes it is company policy but it is also the insurance companies that are requiring the update in training before a company can hire you back. I realize driving a truck is like riding a bicycle but unlike a bike if you wobble left or right you could end up killing somebody in the process. Trucking schools are expensive and they are only getting worst because they have figured out who is calling the shots. not the companies themselves but the insurance companies that insure the trucks we drive. I would go with a small trucking company for a year then move to a larger one if you like. then you have current experience and can get a better foot hold. the general rule these days is 6month off the road, (ie Local or not driving) and your going to be told to either go with a instructor for a few weeks, or go back to school.
