Hello and thank you in advance for any opinions and suggestions....

I think I have it boiled down to a handful of companies I am going to apply for: Swift, Prime, Central Refrig, Schneider. I'm leaning towards a refer division for some reason. Even though I have read hundreds of posts here, it is still VERY overwhelming trying to make a decision of what company/s are more favorable over the others.

I drove for 3 years(93-96) to bring home a paycheck after being laid off from my better paying job til I got called back. Started out with MS Carriers and ended my stint with Ryder Dedicated Logistics. So I have experienced "the life" so to speak so that's not a concern. I let my cdl lapse so I do have to go through getting it again.

After reading the posts here, it definitely looks like things have changed drastically. I would appreciate any and all input to some of my questions. I apologize for any repetitive questions. I know you see the same questions over and over.

    1. Of the companies above, do any of them have forced dispatch?
    2. Idling while parked appears to be a BIG concern now a days. Could anybody elaborate on what is acceptable? Am I going to be freezing my butt of in the winter and sweating it off during the summer?
    3. I chatted online with a guy who is an o/o leased to Schneider running regional in the midwest. He said its very real to make $6-12 per mile. Is that true?
    4. Are all the big dogs going to elogs? How difficult is it to run, stay legal and make miles?
    5. I'm expecting to be out 3 weeks or so after orientation, training, etc...Any educated guesses who would treat me the best and pay the best?

Again, thank you for any advice..

Well the Schneider guy is lying to you about the $6 to $12 per mile, I think they pay their O/O's around .94 cents a mile plus some bonus's. And ya most big companies are going to e-logs and I run one now and it's nice in the fact that you never have to worry about your log being wrong again but the days of running another hour or two when you feel like it are gone with e-logs. Whoever you choose to go with just be sure you can stay there at least a year before jumping to another company because companies really frown on guys that jump around. Hope this helps a little. You should include where you live so guys can give a better answer as to who would work best for you.

Thanks Poorboy. I'm in Northern KY, about 10 miles out of Cincy.
