Most of us that have been around for a while know how this game works.

I understand WHY the FMCSA requires HOS limits... because if they didn't, there would be utter chaos.
Some guys would just run til a disaster struck.
The only way to work every day without a reset is to work only 8.75hrs/day max.
But, if you do that, you're sitting around about 14.5hrs/day twiddling your thumbs awaiting midnight to roll in.
    4.5 x 8 = 36hrs.
    It's the same.

I'd much rather just work at maximizing each day, then take a 24hr (+10) and have a fresh bank.

    Everyone's situation is different.

I do know if they were to eliminate the 34 I would not run coast to coast any longer.
I'll sit one day. Not 2.5

I'd be really in favor of a graduated licensing system.
The longer you've been in the game, the more flexibility your HOS gives you.

    For example..
Johnny Snodgrass is fresh out of school. He has strict HIS regs to adhere to. When he gets 5yrs under his belt with accidents/log violations, they're relaxed into Stage 2.
Perhaps that could be a split sleeper availability.
At 10yrs with no violations, maybe the 70hr rule drops.

Say, for example, guys like a lot of us that have been out here 30-40 years without accidents or logbook violations.. complete freedom.. because we've PROVEN that we can be trusted.
Violations knock you back a stage.

It wouldn't be difficult to set that up in this day and age of computers and record keeping.

It won't happen. But, it'd be nice.

I normally do run long days then take a 34 when I am out of hours. I stayed out close to 60 days total last time out though, and was in need of a change of pace. When I get back on the road, I will be running long days again.

It had been so long since I ran recaps that I forgot how they worked!

Well that is a nice story. I'll have to make sure we stock log books so you do not look quite as foolish.

Yeah I know probably will not help.
