I would help you if I could, I really would. I have already moved one semi truck load on my dime and have plans to move at least two more. I cannot afford to absorb any more fuel costs or lost revenues from donating trucks.

I am just a small trucking company doing what I can despite also being a victim of the storms. Like I said, Holly at TFT would be your best resource in the matter. I know it is easier said than done, but if you could come up with some cash donations, you could hire a semi truck to run that load fairly inexpensively, especially if you can find a driver with some compassion that understands the cause.

@Eskimo6804 What price would be needed to help you ..in terms of fuel? We have some savings that could possibly cover that.. from Austin to McDonald Chapel...If you could work it into your schedule. If need be that is.. we spoke to our Pastor tonight...you might ask.. why didnt you do that first? Well we belong to a BIG church. I mean BIG. But it seems they didnt get on this right away.. in fact only started deciding to do something when we started contacting the "staff" for help. However, the missions team is suppose to do stuff like this and well .. the guy in charge was out of the country when the disaster happened and when he did return to U.S. he was sick. So..its been a slow process. My husband finally got ahold of our Pastor tonight.. he said they would help. So we will see..I can tell you out of 60 + ppl in our Sunday school classes (all of which have trucks, suv's etc) no one has offered anything. One husband/wife team offered donations..anyway.. but just in case...I would like to know what sort of out of cost $ it would take to get someone with a heart like yours down here. We can pay something.. just not thousands.
    # rookietrucker.. do you know the link to the Baylor U drive? Its only two hours or so from here? Looked online didnt see anything?

Also I need to reiterate..Where we are going.. NO supplies have been given. McDonald Chapel, AL HAS HAD NO HELP. We have clearance via Volunteers of America..working with the Head Volunteer Coordinator. This area has had no help, no supplies .. NOTHING. They are off the map so to speak when it comes to help.. FORGOTTEN. This weekend .. that will change. I and my contact in AL (with VOA) do not want the supplies we have to just sit in storage units like they are in Tuscaloosa and parts of Birmingham ..Thanks FEMA #_#..We will drive directly in.. will be escorted from interstate to McDonald Chapel. What we have needs to be give directly. It will be distributed IMMEDIATELY.

I know in Limestone county, we here. did not wait for instructions, or any local, state, or federal government to approve anything. we the folks in Athens Al, affiliated with several churches hit the road immd & brought food, water, clothes, & everything you can imagine & drove down every single road in Limestone county helping people. for day's there were volunteers standing in the street corners, holding signs. FREE FOOD!

We are still helping, but we were the first responders after medical & police who could not do what we did. I myself take no credit for it. It is what we are supposed to do. I am so proud & thankful to be blessed by a towns people who truly cares for it's people. the amount of supplies from just our lil group was huge & it was all done without any outside money or help. we did start getting supplies from folks 3 day's after the storm. we still have open house to people who need food, shelter, clothes, you name it. no one gets turned away. if folks can't get to us we will get any needed supplies to them. men, farmers with backhoes, pick up trucks, & chain saws went out & worked dusk til dawn working for folks that they did not know. all they knew was there were victims of this storm & we will not let them down.

When ya hear the phrase, the guy will give you the shirt off his back, it is a true happening here. I feel blessed not because the storm did not touch my property, I never even lost power. I feel blessed cause of the opportunity I had to be able to help. anyone not affected by this tradgedy should give all they can to help in what ever way possible. even if it's just fellowship with someone who suffered thru this.

And yet, FEMA didn't make an appearance in Dade County Georgia until Monday. 5 days after the devastation. But that's OK. We in Dade County are strong willfull people who have the metallity that we don't need the Government. We can band together & do it ourselves.

For years, we stood together alone without state or federal government aide. We can do it now as well. They don't call us the State of Dade for nothing.

I have been home since the tornado's hit. I have seen the damage in my area with my own eyes. I am pretty much speachless when it comes to putting my thoughts into words about it. I can tell you one thing though. The damage I saw ranks up there with the damage I saw in New Orleans after Katrina blew thru.... I was down there hauling heavy equipment for months afterwards.

I wouldn't donate my feces to the Red Cross. Why? Cause they are paying my cousin a salary of $72,000.00 a year to sit and answer phones. My feelings is that the Red Cross should be a voluntary organazation & all that salary money should be used for disaster releif.

Dwayne, Brian, & everyone else who stood up & took the leading reins for releif efforts.... I applaud you!!

Unfortunatly do to high maintnance costs in April, I am strapped for cash & can't help by donating my truck. Do to your recent efforts, it has made me come up with a plan to actually plan for a future event as this. We all know it's going to happen again. The question is when & where? Next time I am planning to stand beside you helping instead of behind you watching.
