My orientation with TWT draws closer... August 4th. I'm very excited but nervous also.
I have been reading a lot of orientation posts and watching lots of videos. There are so many types of orientation that I'm kind of confused as to what I should expect. I know there will be a driving test because they told me that already but what else? I figure there will be a drug test right away and other than having a party last night for my birthday and drinking there is nothing I'm at all concerned about. I don't even take Tylenol. I stopped the pain meds a long time ago.
Roughly how big will the class be? Some I've read were up to 40, some were 20, and some over 50.
Will there be a physical? What kind of stuff should I be expected to do? Will I be on a bus home if there is 1 thing that I can't do to their requirements or if I pass everything else with flying colors maybe they will overlook that 1 thing? I'm only worried about the full squat. I can't go completely down due to the surgery but I'm almost there. The basket I've been working with is a few inches off the floor yet.
I'm overweight will they dump me because of it? I've been losing weight but it's not a fast process. I've only managed to lose 8lbs in the couple of weeks.
Does anyone know where the orientation will be at?
I am waiting to get a call back from my recruiter to ask him these questions and more but he sometimes takes a few days so I figured I would check here.
Thanks.![]()

TWT isn't a huge company. I almost went there but the pay for me is real low. Nice equipment though. I loaded next to a team for TWT today in Spokane. Two big gals. I think you'll be ok....
TruckerGonnaBe and Chinatown Thank this. -
I think TWT will have a small class, 4-6 maybe. Usually, physical/drug test is first thing on the agenda. Should be about 2-3 days. How much over weight are you ? A lot of places doing this BMI neck measurement now-a-days. Have all your info there also, D/L SS card references past employment info etc.

Thank you. I'm glad to hear about the class sizes. I do better with a smaller class.
What kind of stuff do they do for the physcial?
I'm about 80lbs overweight right now. -
My wife entertained the idea of changing companies. TransAm had her do a step test, step up,step down until her heart rate was at a certain level, then she had to maintain it for several minutes. She ran out of steam,,,,smoking didn't help,,
she also had climb into a trailer and retrieve several 50# boxes from the nose to the tail within a certain time span,,,
some co may require you to push/pull 1000lbs on a pallet jack...you can do it big guy ! -
I work for Systems Transport. I'm pretty sure i commented in a previous post of yours. Orientation for Systems (flatbed),TWT (reefer) and JJ's all subsidiary's of Trans-systems inc are held in the same place at the same time. It is held in Class room #1 at HQ in Spokane,WA. Orientation is usually in the range of 5-25 people. Given the season and the fact that Systems is begging for drivers with their $1500 sign on bonus I'd expect that number to be towards the higher end.
Day 1 is drug test, road test ( dont hit anything or drop the transmission and you pass) and physicals. Since your going to the To Weak to Tarp side if you can fog a mirror your pretty much in.
Day 2 is ######## videos and logs department coming in to feed you some more ########
Day 3 is smith system or ######## videos and/or Safety coming into ######## you
Day 4 is smith system driving portion of the training
Day 5 is time to hurry up and wait for a trainer or truck for the weekend. The mall is within walking distance of the hotel and has a nice theater since you'll probably be stuck for the weekend. There's the worlds biggest Red Ryder wagon down there by the river to as well as a tram over the waterfall for some good views/pics.
once you get your trainer you'll likely be paired up with a old bucket of lard who can't bother to change out his sweatpants more than once a week. He'll scream and whine so much you'll seriously consider ramming into a bridge column just to be free of his whining and ########.
After that you'll get a dispatcher with the IQ of a chimp, but once you've been out solo for a bit things start to improve.
Things are going to get a hell of a lot worse before they better though.

Thank you Oldman49. I've started doing the box lifting to ensure I will be able to do it when I get there. I'm also working on setting up a step-up.
Ramblingman I was really hoping you would post. You did post on another one of my posts.
One thing is that I really hope she'll be cleaner than that. I expect a bit more cleanliness from females.Although I know some that are that disgusting..
I really appreciate the post. That is what I was wondering what I should expect while I'm there and if my issues were going to prevent me from succeeding there. Schneider already said no because when I talked to them about my knee they said they weren't sure I could do the required full squat. I was getting pretty concerned that I would run into the same thing with TWT and others. -
A little tip getting started in trucking.
When it comes to dealing with companies don't tell them anything you are not legally required to. They will just use it against you later on.DriverToBroker Thanks this.
