Following driverless truck deployment, Texas lawmkers eye ban
In the wake of recent news that autonomous truck developer Aurora is hauling driverless with Uber Freight and Hirschbach in Texas, lawmakers in Texas are considering a ban of fully driverless trucks in the Lone Star State.
The bill, HB 4402, was introduced in late March and on May 10 emerged from the Texas House Committee on Transportation. It would, if passed, require a human operator to be physically present in any commercial vehicle operating with the autonomous driving system engaged.

Doesnt suprise me. For better or worse our country is esentially run by lawyers and lawsuits. And the liability of driverless vehicles will take at least a decade of red tape to sort out. Likely more. And god help these companys the first time a fully autonomous truck kills a large group of people.
That said this is a stopgap. So we will see how this plays out long term if passed.Jordonh, RockinChair and silverspur Thank this. -
Aurora announced late last week that there would be a safety person in each truck on the Dallas-Houston run starting today. Whether they will be required to have a CDL wasn't mentioned.
