I saw a posting about a TX, NM, CO, and AZ regional job for JB Hunt. I used to run a dedicated lane Laredo to Denver to El Paso to Laredo and I absolutely loved running that area. Can anybody on here give me the inside scoop on this regional gig?

Is it mostly the same customers or irregular routes? Mostly drops or live loads/unloads? Do they expect you to flip your sleep schedule a lot, or do you mostly stick to days or nights at your preference? Are you guys getting decent miles on this lane? What else can you tell me about it?

I'm pretty happy with my current job, but my dream job would be running that exact region with maybe the occasional trip to Utah, Wyoming, or Oklahoma. So before I seriously consider leaving a job I like, I want to know that this regional gig is worth it and there is not some hidden catch or undesirable aspect.

You'll never truly know until you go. You could try to ask in a round about sort of way if you could get your current job back should you leave for this dedicated gig.

Otherwise, you might end up living the fable of the dog, the bone, and the bridge.

That's exactly why I'm asking. I'm trying to get a feel for what to expect and determine it it's worth the risk to leave. I know I can get my job back, but I'm not trying to leave over a shot in the dark. I want some more information before I jump.

I'd love to run into a guy that runs that lane at a truck stop but I'm not in that region much with my current job so it would be tough.

Ike Stephens might say something like "I can't know, driver." Nor can you know until you try this dedicated route or another.

Before I started on my dedicated route, I didn't know what it would be like. I was told where I would be picking up from and delivering to, but not much more than that.

As it turns out, it has worked out beautifully. The only thing that is not beautiful is my tractor.

My big disqualifiers would be if they constantly have me flipping my sleep schedule, routinely getting under 2300-2500 miles per week, or finding out it's very difficult to get me home regularly on this lane.

That would certainly be my reaction.

Perhaps @Chinatown could offer some suggestions.

Thanks but not interested in that. I'm in Laredo, way too many good jobs and dedicated auto parts lanes here to bother with the temp thing.
