Not to divulge too much information, but he has a disability that requires reasonable accommodations. They chose to go the route of the most inefficient "reasonable accommodation" that takes a half day to complete, thereby cutting his ability to drive by over half each day.

    .23 @ 8000 miles is $1,840 a month or breaking it down further $460 a week.

Who the H E double hockey sticks is going to do this job for that.
Actually I know who'd do it for that wage, nevermind.

Appointment for an ASL translator video call, rather than simply communicating by text message or through the Qualcomm.

I am getting the idea that somebody embellished a story here. Just a sneaky suspicion.

They refuse to text message him on his cell or Qualcomm ?

while they text everyone else ?
That will be an expensive tactic if he can prove it .

or he can take the path of least resistance and find a job with a company that appreciates hard working safe drivers

You can get a CDL if you’re deaf?
If so , why all the fuss about only having an earbud in one ear ?

Ain't no company out there in 2022 paying $.23. Just not possible. Too many good paying jobs for anyone to be willing to subject themselves to it.

They weren't willing to text anyone, apparently. Some people just can't be bothered to think outside the box or change their ways, not even one bit. And yes, the DOT can issue a waiver for deaf personnel. Federal Hearing Exemption Application | FMCSA

The deaf driver just needs to move on to a company that wants a hard working driver with a clean driving record.

if he’s got no tickets and a clean csa score , finding a job with a company that can collect the huge tax credits for hiring a disabled person shouldn’t be that difficult .

He has a "major violation" on his record, though. That's why he is where he is.
