If you do not know what you are doing don't. That is why there are auto slacks. If they are working properly you do not need to. We check travel everytime we service a truck and maybe snug them up a bit. If they are out of adjustment repaired is required. That is the shops job.

If you see a truck for sale and it says western Express you should not consider buying it.
That's much easier than finding serial numbers isn't it lol650cat425 Thanks this. -

I don't lay on my back under the truck on a regular basis but I did 1x before and here now for pictures. -
this and the hoses are mainly what I look at.

Probably best to stay off limbs and back up off of them when you can.
Looks like you have double chambers on both axles so that is out.
Shoes like good. Unequal shoe wear has never been an uncommon thing on tandems.
Hat off for checking your equipment. I see some guys just do the smoke and roll test. It blows smoke and the wheels roll. Good to go.spsauerland, Qbf594, Rideandrepair and 4 others Thank this. -

I don't know if its just the lighting or the angles but that cam tube doesn't look like its parallel to the axle. That'd cause some odd wear.
Also, do those cam tubes not have support brackets to the axle housing? I couldn't see any in the pics. That 3030 can and slack is a lot of weight hanging off the side of the brake spider.Qbf594 Thanks this. -

Have any of you seen the s cam housings and slacks with allen plugs in the hole for the grease fittings?
U joints and slip yokes without fittings?
Special lube I am sure as it lasts a lifetime. When one of those driveshafts blew out its life was over. Along with a couple of chambers, valves, hoses, ABS stuff plus tow bill and handing off load.
One company had units with 10- 12,000 hours on them. They had been on a 250 hr interval but the manufacturer approved 500 hr engine oil services when their oil was used.
Nothing else was done in between. When U joints and such start exploding who did they point a finger at? The operator!
Also had service calls because the s cams would not turn in the housing.
Most of you know many fleets are doing the minimum to maintain warranty and replacing them at the end of their warranty.spsauerland, Rideandrepair, SmallPackage and 1 other person Thank this.
