Do you guys know anything about them? IE: How much experience is needed to apply? Pay/Benefits?

I have a local terminal and will be going to school soon for my cdl. Just came across their website below

Have to work docks first before you can drive?

I doubt you will get many answers. UPS drivers probably wont talk about pay. I am just finding out that ups has team otr positions available at all. Definitely gonna try to get my team mate and I in there but its probably hard. What I can say is ive known some people that work for ups from back when i was a package handler at fedex. Both terminals were close together and we had same shift times so we talked at gas stations and stuff. I met one guy who was probably in his 50's. He told me that his position was carrying a tapegun around and taping packages and that he was at 24.50 an hour. Naturally, I laughed in his face. He stood behind his words and explained that ups doesnt top out. that he had been there so many years doing the same job and his pay steadily went up and now its too worth it to give up. that was a couple years ago.I moved on to driving and forgot about most of the ups talk. years later now im engaged. My fiance has a relative that we are very close with who has been driving for ups for over 30 years. He does linehaul. home every day. and get this, gets 77cpm. WHAAT! Im not sure if its the same with ups truckload freight, but its definitely worth giving it a shot. Hope this small bit of info helps at least a little. Gotta go look for open ups positions o.0

Former and current ( we are on here ) This isn't really a site to discuss the job. It's hard to explain and others understand the way UPS works. We have dedicated forum(s) and it's not hard to find through google.

No top secret stuff: just the way it is. TTR isn't our place to air stuff to the masses, it's not worth anyones time trying to decipher it :biggrin_2559:

ETA: Found a old post and it is still this way.

Just out of curiosity, are coverable tattoos (like arm tats) a bad deal for truckers? I plan to sleeve mine out, but to me that looks like someone that does make a lot of money. Idk

Not sure if are asking if UPS has a policy or just general transport companies.

Big difference between UPS package, UPS Fright LTL, and UPS Truckload. Lots of these posts about them seem to try and combine them, while they act like totally different companies.

Package and LTL are more like everyone thinks UPS is. Union where you start off on the docks, and a lot of rules.

Truckload acts pretty much like any trucking company. I wasn't union, had a goatee, a couple tattoos, and even had a mohawk for a couple weeks that nobody cared about. Met some pretty high ups in the company on several occasions, and as long as I was wearing boots and a safety vest, none of that was an issue. Little more concerns and rules about safety and policy, but nothing that was hard to deal with and it usually ended up being as much of an asset as it was an inconvenience.

Lots of different jobs there, ranging from stuff that had you home daily to ones that had you out weeks at a time. Really all depends on where you work and what accounts you will be hauling for.

Starting pay was $.36 mile with a $.005 raise every six months, and top pay of $.43 mile. Think they were raising the top pay as I was leaving, but I can't remember what the details were. Also, lots of little things on top of that mileage, like pay for stops, unloading, tarping, NYC, etc.

They used to hire drivers right out of school, but last I saw they were requiring two years experience. However, it seems like there were sometimes hires that didn't meet all their criteria, depending on how bad they needed drivers. I saw them suffer badly at a few points for drivers, because it seemed that nobody was applying because they all thought you either needed to start on the docks or know somebody to get an in.

I applied and am now in the books to take orientation in 2 weeks...I like my current gig and it pays pretty good and I am home everyday but work graveyard hours and half the morning. Im just burned out on nights and this upsftl opened up. Just have a gut feeling Im not being told everything...HR was vague on perks etc and had to ask manager detailed questions...I want to make this my last stop in my driving career but feel reluctant for some reason...Not sure if its just nerves or changing...Do you have any other details to help a guy ease is fears rather he made the right decision or not.
