Heard about bridges being embargoed or even closed on the 2 lane portions east of Galena and west of Freeport.
Anyone local with some specifics?
I hate to run across 80 and then north to Forest Park, IL (Berwyn), so I'm looking at alternatives. Might run US 14 from Madison back to 90 to miss the construction in Wisconsin. The route across 20 was quicker before the embargoes and detours.
US 20 from Dubuque to Rockford(I39)

WI Hwy 11 might be one you could duck back down I39 or Hwy 51 in Rockford area and rejoin Hwy 20

I would definitely take 11 across before going all the way up to madison. Maybe take 69 south from monroe down to 20. 69 turns into 26 i think on the Illinois side, but it’s basically a straight shot all the way down to 20.

I DID NOT LIKE RT. 20 DUE TO HUGE HILLS. It is pretty but tiresome to drive and bad for brakes.

Hills on 52 are worse, and it's mostly 2 lane. No mountains anywhere. Going from northeast corner of Iowa to near Berwyn, it's actually shorter taking the route I specified. Might be a touch shorter than that taking 18 to 12 to il 53 to 290.
Construction was light, so I ran the usual way taking 90 through from Madison. Then where there's normally no to few trucks waiting, I'm 4th or 5th in line.
