We bottom feeders tend to stay close to the bottom. (The Valley) where possible in the Sierras.
Sierras are nothing to be fooled with. You can have winds upwards of 200 upslope sustained and instant coverage of your truck and everything manmade some winters.

120 is closed in the winter ... and it's easier/better to just take 6.
Once upon a time I back roaded it from Austin to the 6. Cant remember what route I took. Remember blowing up every tube of grease, and spare container of oil/coolant in my side box. Gets mighty high some places in Nevada.truckdriver31, D.Tibbitt, Dave_in_AZ and 1 other person Thank this. -
Absolutely do not take 120, it is not truck friendly. Bishop to Bridgeport isn't bad but there are a few grades. Sherwin grade, deadman, Conway summit. Those grades are steep but are fairly straight.
Just out of curiosity where/what are you loading in Bridgeport? There isn't much up there.
Safe travels -
I have no conformation on this, but I think our friend @Lepton1 Is no longer with us.D.Tibbitt, kemosabi49 and nikmirbre Thank this. -
The NV376 goes up there from Tonapah. I go that way more often than not, then up to Battle Mountain.
Austin is a big hill lol.
If I ever started a hill climb event, it would be on 50 up and over Austin.D.Tibbitt Thanks this. -
Every newbie and flat lander is scared about the tiniest of grades. Only 2 places that have effed me over for being overconfident as an "experienced driver" while hauling OSOW.... Salt River Canyon and Austin Summit. I do Phoenix to Portland every week ... and when the weather is nice I will come back empty thru Austin ... surprisingly good cell reception for the middle of nowhere.
Pretty sure I took the 722 (2) to 361 to 95 to 360 to 6.
The 722 is another no go road for a big truck. Pretty sure I saw the back of my head on a couple of the switch backs. -

D.Tibbitt Thanks this.

I used to take Salt River Canyon coming home with beer from Denver.
Lots of guys with copper go that way out of the mine.
You definitely know you have no engine problems and you're Jake's work good lol lol. -
