As well as Arizona (Marana,Kingman, etc.)Victorville,California has an aircraft storage facility as well (Southern California Logistics Airport). Most of the aircraft stored there are civilian, some will be parted out and scrapped but some also can be reactivated and made ready for service when the need arises.

Some of the aircraft were dismantled and cut up to comply with the SALT (and later,START)treaties.

I've worked on aircraft that were no longer made and the parts for them were no longer manufactured. Some parts we ordered, came from those storage ghost lots in Arizona. The parts would be reworked and inspected as best as could be done, then shipped to us to use on aircraft.
