US 62 Northern Arkansas

Yeah, I've driven it. Only did it once.

 

I run 62/412 a lot all the way across quite a bit. Loaded usually around 88k gross with cattle. I thought it was a pretty good road. Guess I was wrong

 

If only they'd had to run it when it was still ferry service across Norfolk! Lol

 

I remember those days. I was still a youngin but I do remember a couple ferry boats around

You are probably thinking of Lancaster to Paint Lick in KY as a comparative "Pretty good Road" on KY 53. Back in the late 50's, not since a few miles improved near Lancaster. This was the "acid test" trip for new drivers; Macon, MS to Paint Lick, with skinny, weak, raggedy stock cattle. Buy them cheap in Macon, truck to KY bluegrass, triple your money. Added to the narrow cracked edge, no shoulder roadbed, the trees overhang made you ride up on that dividing line. Tight..
