While getting unloaded in NY Tuesday morning I noticed a USA Truck driver checking in. While waiting on the dock personnel to cut his seal I struck up a conversation with him. While talking he told me his Tractor ( Freightliner ) had just had it's governor set back to 59 MPH. He told me all the trucks were being set back. Is this true? This driver was not happy, he told me he was not changing jobs because he feared he with another company would be forced dispatched into NY city. He also told me some other things I won't reveal here, but 2 of them troubled me. I got my paperwork and wished him well and left.
USA Truck Governed at 59 MPH?

my fleet mgr sent a message out yesterday saying they are considering turning them up for those that have good idle time and fuel economy.Typically when they turn them down its because a driver had a incident or is not meeting the requirement of idle time and fuel economy over a period of time. They give you ample opportunities to meet those requirements after counseling you ie fuel reviews
-
Like Thomas said, most likely that driver had to high of an idle time. Unlike the old 9400i's you can't idle when you are doing a D/H or leaving the truck on when you go inside after fueling. Still remember I went an entire week with 0% idle time in the prostar lol, then again... I ran a lot that week.

As far as turning the trucks down fleetwide....nope. I've heard completely the opposite. In fact, when I was at Van Buren two weeks ago getting services I had asked about the rumors of faster trucks. Well maintenance supervisors said that select trucks have already been turned up some at 64-66 and two at 72 and 75. They are part of a test program that the new VP is pushing but Cliff has not signed off on it yet for fleetwide. If he does it will be slowly phased in in the springtime and still will be dependent on your safety and fuel economy record.
Also had a driver, who is 17 year USA employee, tell me that his Cascadia runs at 64 and that his is able to hit that on the pedal as well as on the cruise control. He said his FM told him that veteran drivers are not restricted to 59/60 on the pedal. I don't know how accurate that is though as it may just be that the mechanic forgot to limit the pedal on that truck when it was having the TBA service done.
I don't even bother worrying about the speed rumours anymore because I'll likely never get mine turned up. My truck continues to have air leaks, EGR issues, and other things that I feel are factors in my MPG as I've posted a 6.2, 6.1, 5.9, and last month a whopping 5.64 average! I maximize my use of cruise control, I have a rolling average of 2.2% idle time, and I accelerate so slowly that it pisses people off yet somehow according to Fuel Economy, it's my fault. Ahh well. What can I do right? -
Im averaging 6.92 mpg for the last 4 months, my idle is 4.8 and my truck is still 63 mph, lets see how many more accidents this causes if they let rookie drvrs run that much faster, like I said in prior post, this new vp is not good for this company, his new qcomm system has been an absolute debacle, now he is gonna turn trucks up so guys can get more tickets and get in more accidents. Our csa score already sucks, this gives us the opportunity to make it so much worse. Yes it is the responsibility of drvrs to make sure u run legal always, but dont give a drvr the means not to. See you all later, ill wait to see how I get bashed for this reply.

I don't think there would be that much more accidents if they set cruise speed to 65-70mph. Most of the accidents I've seen cruising at highway speeds aren't caused because one is cruising at a 65-70 but because the driver is using poor judgement. Its the guys that want to go to fast for road conditions, take on/off ramps to fast, follow to closely, take corners like a four-wheeler, backing up into something, etc...
I'm a "newer" driver.. been driving now for 1.5 years. I don't see much of a difference driving 63mph -vs- 70mph other then being able to get to somewhere a few minutes faster and having to pass a lot more trucks and four-wheelers lol. I still piss off the same amount of four-wheelers because they all want to go 75-80+ on the turnpike but its part of my job to piss them off (especially when I'm loaded)

They turned mine down to 62. I cant get 63 anymore. It was at a service in Van Buren. I have good idle time, 2 good DOT checks, no tickets. They could mess up a poop sandwich. Im not happy at all with them. It wont be long though. Ill be out of their hair.

Where do you have the information that validates our csa scores are bad? I have prepass and i get green light 9 out of 10 times.Seems to me if the scores were bad that would not be the case. Also seems if the scores were bad i would have been dot inspected more than just one time this year which i passed 100 percent with no violations or warnings on equipment or logs
