The amount of time you may have to wait for a trainer varies. It all depends on where the current trainers (with no students) are located and how many new hires they need to get a trainer.

USA does NOT allow you to install an inverter. Most of the trucks already have inverters though. The ones that don't are the 9400i's and I'm sure there are a few Prostars or something that don't have them but for the most part all the "newer" trucks have inverters installed already.

When I worked at USA, I believe it was a no handheld device (cellphone) rule, which is a federal law now. They may have changed it but I'm not sure.

Idle times are to be very low with trucks equipped with APUs. When I had an APU equipped truck I had no problem keeping my idle time between 1-5%. A couple weeks I even had a 0% idle time lol. Trucks not equipped with an APU I think they want your idle time below 30% or something... Mine was always in the 40% range i think? My truck rarely shut off and nobody called me about it so oh well :).

Other then that, Go get your CDL, finish orientation, finish your OTR Training, and be safe on the road with your own truck!

I am sorry, cant be much help anymore. I no longer work at usa. I saved up enough and currently am an o/o.

As per my experiences as a trainer, it depends on how many trainers w/o students are around the term u had orientation at. Also if there are ppl waiting.

No inverters allowed. But most trucks have em already.

Sorry to burst your bubble regarding your perception of a financial "windfall"; not at USIT :biggrin_25513:, if your only experience is driving a bus, chances are you will be treated just like the rest of the inexperienced drones. Thus receiving the .26 cpm :biggrin_25523: I can laugh about it now but when I did it it was a tough climb. I made it though.

The OP asked a question and coupled it with some sarcasim, in the form of "background" information. OOOPS! :biggrin_25524: Wrong move here. Especially for those of us who have been at any terminal operated by USA......OR....sat at the drivers counter at a T/A :biggrin_2559:.

As for the bonehead moves and speeding trucks on the NJTP; you had to have meant big trucks in general, the USA's have the bonehead moves....for sure, but not enough speed to pull their wagons outta of their own way :biggrin_25525:

some of the trouble is small minded people like bear huggy think other life experiences dont count and this isnt the hardest job i have had in 40 years of working 38 owning my own buisness. Try running a 93 foot fishing boat 200 miles offshore in 30 foot seas and 50 mph of wind. And i drove trucks before power steering with 2 sticks so i guess i am still a REAL man
