Still can't find out how fast that short bus was going. But, skid mark over 158 ft? That's more than 2 5ractor/trailer lengths, and looking at the damage to the front of the bus, it still had a lot of speed until it hit the trailer. I'm just guessing, but I'm thinkin 65mph or more.

USA does care, they just haven't killed enough people, yet, to make a change. Eventually, the cheap newbs won't be so cheap, considering all things

Agreed 100%. Though a U-turn may be legal...the question is was it legal for a combo unit that requires MUCH more space. If it were me (I know, it wasn't me), but if it were and I felt that I really needed to make the uturn I'd have put on flashers, stopped the truck, put out triangles and called the law for assistance. He probably had more options than that u-turn. Piss poor decision and bad execution. That left lane for u-turns is for 4-WHEELERS, not trctr trlr combo units. IMO, that driver tried to make a u-turn from the far right lane, there's no telling how fast he turned and where the van was when he proceeded to do so

some of the comments in this thread are unbelievable
though usa may have erred in that uturn, it is comfortable to say that if you are that far into a uturn, you are visible by a blind man (unless they are coming from around a blind curve)
there is NOTHING illegal about making a uturn, those who say it is are only parroting what their safety department has dictated
a uturn can be made anywhere, unless prohibited, but it must be made in a safe manner, typically the person making the uturn is at fault if there is an accident, because the onus is upon the uturn driver to use caution (like leaving from a stop sign, or yield)
but for the shuttle to leave a 150ft skid and mash that bus up like that shows he was going a bit fast and not paying attention -
Making a legal uturn is ok look at the trailer tires of the pic I posted. This uturn was illegal. Plain and simple. Not even worth arguingdrvrtech77 Thanks this.

because he couldnt turn from the left lane? you would need a six lane highway to make such a turn from the left lane

I've worked for 3 companies, 2 of which make it a point to tell their drivers in the hiring process that they will be terminated immediately if ever making a uturn on a public roadway. Guess which one never mentioned uturns whatsoever. I suspect there'll be a change coming, maybe after a few more of these
