USA Truck sounds like they have a decent refresher course. What was told to me was I'd get a bus out to AR, then go through a 40 hour, one week course, then get a bus about 3 hours up the road to USA Trucks HQ's, and go thru orientation for 3 days. then I'd roll out with a trainer for 2 to 4 weeks, up to 6 weeks max.
All this would cost me $650, and they'd take $25 a week out of my check to cover it... for 6 months.
Once that's done, I can stay with them, or go elsewhere.
Is this true? Has anybody done this?... in the past 6 months to a year?
I've been out of 18's "Verifiably" for about 5 years, but have been truck driving and driving straight trucks of various kinds including, but not limited to: Cement mixers, trash trucks, dump trucks, tour busses, and Limo's. I've also driven Expediter straight trucks with sleepers to haul expedited freight in the eastern US and Canada.
I've been driving commercially for about 15 years. I've driven 48 states and half of Canada commercially. I'm 35 with 3 kids and reside in upstate SC. When Katrina hit, I was doing tour busses, and I left the bus industry (briefly) because the bus biz was not so good after Katrina hit. I went over to Swift to move up from my Class B to my Class A, Not a bad experience really- just when I went solo with Swift I was not getting many miles. The company though, as a whole- was not all that bad actually. They took me through 37 states in the winter, and I had a great truck that I got clean, and returned even cleaner.
So, refresher course at USA Truck, 1 week train for $650, then train for a few weeks, then roll out solo for 6 months then?
Talk to me.![]()

Interesting, in two (2) weeks nobody has responded to this or even commented on it. Makes me wonder the validity of the deal they've put forth to me for $650.00

I seen this post...I just don't have anything to contribute....sorry.

Unless they changed something from May/June 2010 and now... the OP's post has wrong info. When I started at USA, the refresher coarse and the new CDL drivers went through the same C1 school. Granted the guys that already had their CDL A (me) was out of C1 before two weeks and the instructors didn't really work on us to much as we already had our license.
