You need to at least have temporary residence in the area for most of those companies in the basin.

Here's an example of the company I'm currently with. They advertise "make up to 100k a year." I work for them and I howl, "No freakin' way!" So I ran the math. IF you make 3000 miles every week for 52 weeks and you achieve every safety bonus and you receive the entire one time hire on bonus over the same 12 months. Then yep. 100k. Once. Never again because the bonus is a one time shot. So technically it is not a false claim, but in reality it's a load of crap!Last edited: Oct 11, 2022

Someone give this man a taco!
If you try to give him mine though, I'll stab you in the eye with the little fork that comes with them.
I'm not on topic, my apologies.

I've discovered that each individual has their own approach to their job situation, and what they choose to "hear" during the hiring process. Plus individual experiences with their dispatch are highly variable. Also when freight is good and companies really need drivers, they tend to correct glaring offenses.
For example: I believe that the horrid reviews Empire got were due mostly to the applicant not understanding the requirements of the job. Thanks to one angry review, I knew to ask about night dispatch and was answered honestly by the company, and I learned the job wasn't for me.
On the other hand, glowing reviews of Woodfield were from male people who were comfortable with the culture and happy with slow crawling, bell ringing, warning buzzing, idle stalling trucks. Who knew?
So, Riverside is not my first choice, and I'm aware of forced dispatch (they say so up front) but I think the position I've been offered for out 7 to 10 will prevent me from having to venture too far west during the winter too often and yet I can volunteer for those great long miles during the summer. In other words, I'm thinking I can work the job and find a happy place for myself. Furthermore, if I can't run 2500 miles in 6 days, something is terribly wrong. And if I can't or I get abused, I can always find another company. It's a crapshoot.Last edited: Oct 11, 2022

Actually, that is my whole purpose for this thread, to get input from drivers who have info about companies to help me weed out the clunkers. It would be easier to find a good job if I didn't live in BFE and out of so many company's hiring areas.
Finally, it ain't over till it's over. I'm still snooping around looking for that nugget. I'm just getting worn out. And it appears the market for experienced drivers is cooling as newbies are flooding in willing to work for cheap because they are young and new. Equipment deliveries are stalled, economy is stalled, small companies are selling out or going under. Oil fields are slowing as new rigs stop going up. A tough ride is coming this winter for sure. I need a spot I can burrow into.
I'm loving the input and insights y'all are sharing. It helps. Thank you.Last edited: Oct 11, 2022

At FCC we haul a lot of dog food, animal protein supplies, hospital and medical supplies, tools and hardware, Kawasaki ATVs (adult toys I call them) and such recession proof freight, flooring and carpeting for Menards stores, baking flour just to name a few, so we should remain stable with the pending downturn.
In the four years I have been here, we have survived the great floods in the Plain states, (remember I 29 being fractured and closed in several places between St Joe's MO and Council Bluffs IA and points NORTH. I was thinking I was new there and would have to start looking for another job but these folks here at FCC didn't fold. Heck, we didn't skip a beat. We survived and thrived over this Covid pandemic which has cost us some 75 drivers, down from 450 to about 375 now. And I think we will survive this too provided Putin or some some other madman/woman doesn't push a button that turns us all into French Fries!
Hey, in the end, it's your decision, U Turn Girl. Even if you don't choose FCC now, you can always come here if things go sideways at company, ABC, XYZ or whatever. Just give it 3-6 months so they DON'T kill you for orientation expenses. I fought for you like I Loved you and I don't even know you. Somehow, I think you are worth fighting for. I know I love it here at FCC and they are worth fighting for. I wish you all the best, whatever you decide!
