They may provide it for you. Halliburton now has a fleet of drivers that isn’t tied to just one PSL. (Product service line) You are used by whoever needs a driver. Frac, cement, baroid, etc. You are just a driver, not driver and laborer like in the past.

With all of these companies you're looking at are you looking beyond CPM, as in bonuses, health care insurance, and 401k matches among other things?

It all matters when determining the value of a deal.

When I was at FCC running OTR it was rare for me to run under 3k miles a week.
I know that NE to TX regional run (home every week) was only advertised at 2700-2800 miles.

Yeah but how much were you making CPM wise though (rhetorical question, you don't have to answer)?

I agree with what you're saying but FCC's healthcare would have to be outstanding to make up for $0.50 - $0.52 CPM.

And with the miles thing, what's the maximum average miles you can consistently average doing OTR running all lower 48 if nothing goes wrong and everything goes perfect when you're governed at 68 MPH (which was what FCC was governed at when I researched them a while back)? 3300 miles per week? Remember, consistently average, all year round.

    3300 X 0.50 = $1650
    3000 X 0.55 = $1650
    2750 X 0.60 = $1650

Uturngirl would only have to do 2750 miles per week at $0.60 CPM versus 3300 miles per week at $0.50 CPM to make the same amount of money. That's 550 extra miles per week, 2200 extra miles per month, to make the same amount of money.

That is a huge difference. Miles matter, that's true, but at a certain point when pay is low enough the miles are irrelevant. For the record this post isn't meant to take a shot at FCC or any of its drivers, I'm just commenting on the number that they offered her salary wise when she is an experienced driver.

I'm not trying to convince anyone or pitch anything, I just asked a question. My point is that you have to look at the whole picture.

There are all kinds of ads out there pitching high CPMs but if these companies are so great then why are they continuously spamming craigslist looking for drivers?

Read the threads on here about Crete. Advertising 65-70 cpm. Driver’s average about 2200 miles a week. When they’re not broke down somewhere….

My wife is from the UP (Bessemer). She only goes home in the summer...

Minnesota has the 10 coldest counties in the country (including Alaska). We dont get a lot of snow, its too cold to snow most of the time. We usually get about a 3 week period just after Christmas where we have highs below zero. If is snows below 10 degrees its generally all fluff, not enough moisture content to cause a problem except it blowing around blinding you and icing up the roads as people drive over it blowing over the road. Snowiest month of the year here is March when it starts warming up. But the wind blowing across the roads turn them to ice in short order.

I was in an active reserve infantry unit back in the early 80s that was attached to Alaska (arctic warfare unit) our 2 week "summer camp" was usually in Jan or Feb. They would send some troops down from Alaska as "advisors". They used to complain how much colder it was here than it was there.

I remember one year we were at Ft McCoy in Wisconsin in early Feb and it had gotten up into the 60s. We got up on this ridgeline and dug in, the ground was actually soft from about a solid week of 60s. After we got our bunkers done the weather turned and dropped into the teens and single digits and froze everything. When we left we were supposed to fill in our holes, but by that time they were like concrete bunkers, so we just covered them with brush and left them.

What about Wal-mart. IDK if its rumors but I heard they bumped thier pay. I cant go to them yet I am starting over from scratch and have some different goals, but if I was in van/reefer with the qualifications I would at least give them a once over.

I’ve mentioned Walmart to her but she didn’t seem interested.

Ok texas dmv was closed for Monday and they are slow getting out mvrs so I have a minute more before making a decision.
This morning I stumbled across jm Bozeman and they check all my boxes including lanes and no driver facing cameras. 68mph on throttle. 70 on cruise (meh but fine). Volvo and peterbilt, and one other I can't remember if KW or freightliner. I probably hope to not get freightliner. 58 cents a mile instead of 60 but lanes and better customer base more than compensates.
Speaking of compensation, to address @fishonron good concerns, I'm 71 I get my health insurance via Medicare and a supplemental policy so that isn't of interest to me. Vacation and holiday pay as well as life and disability are valuable perks, but the amounts provided are generally pretty minimal.
Not sure how excited I am about 401k especially as I'm watching my Roth sink like a stone right now.

anyway At my request. Bozeman expedited the app like crazy so I should get answers from Bozeman and Riverside at the same time. Bozeman is a clear choice for me if they offer.
