Dual core 1ghz is not the same as 2ghz. If you were to calculate it that way my quad 3.4ghz is actually 13.6ghz. I assure you its not that fast. Biggest thing with multi-core processors is that you can do multiple things much better and if software is programmed for it that software will run faster utilizing both processors.

Sorry if you knew this just a personal pet peeve too many times I've seen people advertising dual core processors as twice the speed they actually are.

Looks like a really nice phone though, I'm anti-apple for the most part with their current method of trying to stop competition by suing instead of innovating.

Don't compare an x86 chip to an ARM.

But tell me this, how does an overclocked thunderbolt have a similar quadrant score to a stock dual core bionic. One running two 1ghz processors, and the other running at 1.9ghz. Take into consideration the bionic has more RAM which helps it in quadrant.

That's pretty easy really. The software is almost certainly multi-threaded which takes advantage of the dual cores of the bionic but it is not able to be twice as fast due to overhead from using the threads. The extra ram is what pushes it ahead of the overclocked processor. If you run multi-threaded applications it will be faster then single threaded applications.

If you take a single threaded application and run it on bionic and run it on the overclocked thunderbolt the thunderbolt will most likely run it significantly faster. The fact its ARM or x86 chip does not really effect how multi-processor systems work.

But from Tegra, the manufacturer, a dual core only runs at 50% speed to do the same as a single core. For example, a single core with an A9 running 1g has to operate at 100% while the dual with two A9s only has to run each core at 50% 500mhz. If running at 100%, it would run as fast as a 2ghz.

I asked about the plan and if I was going to be charged anything more if on 3G or 4G and I was told it is the same and no up charge. This also locks me in once the 4G area grows, and they start charging more I will still be locked in with my plan.

The Droid Bionic is faster then what my Droid X was. As for the IPhone 4 I looked at that before I bought my Droid X and the X was better then the Iphone in my opinion.

They claim the IPhone 5 should be out in October. Will it be better then a Android phone, I am not really sure. I am happy with the Droid Bionic, and the Hot Spot plan will work well for me too.

I have an IPAD that I can use with my Hot Spot Wireless app on my phone.

It is an App that you can install on a smart phone and use it to tether your phone to your laptop and use the data plan from the phone to get on the net.

Its a programming issue not really a hardware one. You can only break down certain tasks into multi-threaded solutions. If the processor is doing calculations in order to ensure that the solutions is correct it needs to do them sequentially. This means you need to halt both operations at certain times to ensure one doesn't get ahead of the other this is the overhead I was referring to.

Ideally dual 1ghz processors could be as fast as 2ghz but in the real world its basically impossible. The 2ghz processor will be faster but if you try to do ANYTHING else while it is working it has to stop. Remember the little busy icon on your mouse when your coputer was doing something. This doesn't appear near as often now since most computers are dual core. One core can work while the other handles the User Interface.

I personally would take a dual 1ghz processor over a single 2ghz processor just because it will seem more responsive if you are trying to do 2 things at once.

This will really be the case if your rooting your phone and say trying to listen to music on the phone while surfing. Most likely one or both operations will not be at full potential, maybe music will freeze periodically or maybe your not able to browse as fast as you would be otherwise.

    Agreed...

Another plus, especially with moble, would be less heat with the dual core. My bolt gets warm at stock speed. :O

(Not saying the bionic would not get hot if taxed, but would not work as hard as my bolt)

Nice pick up, wish I could have held out for it instead of getting the thunderbolt. At least it has the same data deal but the battery life is horrific even with the bulky extended battery. Will probably go back to iPhone if the 5 is 4g which everyone assumes it will be
