The one thing I never cared for was trying to put a trailer into a building with bright sunshine outside and it is dark as night in where they want the trailer to go.

But I did not hit my mailbox! I almost did it but I noticed.

By the way... People used to hit my mailbox often. A few years ago I got a mortar bomb from a scrap yard (inert) and put it on the mailbox. Ever since, zero problems with people hitting it. Not sure if it is just a coincidence.

I carried a lantern, electric model. Stick that in the far sight side line inside the dark hole way in the back OR forward corner of the concrete bay.

Aim for that just don't crush it with your trailer tires. Miss small.

I bet there are thousands of scrapes on the walls in that dock where the fleetbeds ran into it over and over and over again.

Some but not too many, it was a nicer facility.

    I disagree.

It happened for a reason. He forgot the concrete barrier was there. You must maintain 3D spatial awareness in tight quarters.

This incident is a good reason to have hood mounted globe mirrors, adjusted for extra wide view (great for seeing merging traffic from obtuse on ramps) AND pointed slightly down to see obstructions like that concrete barrier when you are backing.

The truck I just sold, a T2000, had hood mirrors. They were indispensable when maneuvering in tight quarters at oil rigs. Now I drive a 389, with no hood mirrors. I find myself having to GOAL more often to avoid the stuff I could see with the hood mirrors. I am going to ask the shop install at least a passenger side mirror.

I’d be scared to get near it because it looks like it’s about to fall over.
