If you can stay out 6-8 weeks, many carriers won’t have much of a problem with S Florida home. But if you expect to be home every 2-3 weeks [or less], it will be a problem for many.

I bet my company, Britton Transport, would work with you so long as you explain your situation as you have here. It is a relatively small company, about 100 trucks, with a flatbed division(about 20 trucks) and a van/reefer division (about 80 trucks). They do hire new drivers but only have 1 flatbed trainer and maybe 3 van/reefer trainers. I am in the flatbed division. I know we have at least one guy that by choice never goes home. They finally made him take some time off after about 6 months and he took a week off at Cocoa Beach, Florida. I do go home and they do good getting me home. I have no real complaints. Best wishes!

There is (was?) A reefer company suncoast I think that hired solo to haul perishables between Cali and Florida. Never went north and it would get you where you want to go. Time for @Chinatown again. Do they still exist?

Don't blame you for not wanting to move from Key West.
Contact some companies and ask if they hire from Key West and if they do, you won't have to change your domicile address.
    Call these and ask:
    Melton Truck Lines
    Cypress Truck Lines
    Transport America
    Covenant Transport
    Florida Beauty Express
    Vero Logistics
    Titan Transfer
    Schneider
Brown Distributing - Check their application here > Apply On Company Site
Just saw this on their application website:
We are currently seeking a Specialty Driver to join our Operations team on our the Upper FL Keys Route!
    Schedule :
Monday-Friday, 5:00 AM – until deliveries are completed. This is not an overnight position. You will be home every evening!
Easy chore; spend a few minutes on the phone and ask if all these companies these hire in Key West.

I went through some training at the base in Key West, many years ago.
A Hospital Corpsman friend of mine went through triage training there at the Naval Hospital, then after training went to 3rd Marine Division in Quang Tri Province in Vietnam.

Now that you mention it...who would want to leave the keys if they already lived there? Not I.

Don't know if he's still in Key West, but a high school classmate of mine moved there after a hitch in the Marines and doing the Vietnam thing. He bought a barge and tied it to a pier in Key West and built living quarters on it. I remember he lived in part of it and rented part of it. I think he had maybe 2 or 3 apartments on the barge. He and I are both from Tennessee.
Yeah, Key West is nice. I also love it here in Las Vegas.

Hmm, a division with about 20 trucks. How often do driver openings pop up there, and most importantly, how would you rate the performance of Britton’s one securement trainer? Thanks!
