..... well blew a tire going to bloomfield and waiting for the tire guy ...,
So long story short ... tire blew on the outside , had my pry bar and took off the casing ( don't need it flopping around ) , got to a safe area for the tire guy to do his thing and now i wait .
I always tell the new guys to be prepared , and bring food water and tools along to keep things rolling and once again , doing the Boy Scout thing saves the day .
Hope you new guys take heed and be prepared .
Nothing like being in BFE at 11 pm at night waiting on a repair to make you wonder about certain life choices
Waiting on the tire guy, blew a drive tire.

Agreed. Being prepared is sage advice, my friend.

I had a trailer tire explode a few nights ago, so violently that it took off a chunk of the tire next to it! I was out in the sticks in northeast Texas and ended up waiting for 4 1/2 hours for the tire guy to show up…
Lav-25, tscottme and hope not dumb twucker Thank this. -
Kind of why I don’t run late into the night like that if I can help it. One little mishap and your whole evening is trashed at the very end of the day.

The other side of this coin is that any tire old and wore out enough to explode going down the road should have been taken off and trashed a long time ago, but that’s a particular pet peeve of mine regarding trucking equipment. I’d outlaw recaps altogether and any company or owner-op who can’t afford to run virgin rubber on the whole rig probably shouldn’t be out there anyway. I don’t do exploding dry-rotted tires.

Lol. Virgin rubber explodes too.
The tire was removed off the wheel. If the inside one was still holding i’d be driving to the next place that has a tire shop. Not sitting and waiting. Heck even meet the tire guy halfway is better than sitting.Tb0n3, shatteredsquare, Deere hunter and 10 others Thank this. -
I've worked where recaps are not allowed. Had the same number of tire failures as the companies using recaps. "Recap tires explode more often" is a trucking myth. Low tire pressure causing tires to overheat which leads to tires exploding is usually what is causing the tire explosions.

(I have been told by more experienced drivers than me of a brand new tire mounted in Las Cruces blew before Lordsburg)Lav-25 Thanks this. -

yeah yeah I get it…virgin tires blow out all the time too. (Except practically never in my own personal experience.) it’s by far the most common type of mechanical inconvenience that will put you on the side of the road a waste a lot of your day and I don’t have ANY patience for it, but ya’ll do ya’ll on that one.JolliRoger and Lav-25 Thank this.
