Does anyone do this? I enjoy walking and was tempted to go for a stroll the other morning (around 3am) at the Pilot I was at.

I can see some obvious dangers, though.

    Thoughts on this?

When I use to run OTR I would walk 2-3 miles a day in truck stops or rest stops, keep your wits about you and watch out for people not paying attention to were they are driving and should be good IN MOST Truck stops

Location at 3am, that could be an issue, truck stop speeders, even at that hour, innatentive drivers pulling out. I'd wear reflective clothing if I were you, and carry some protection.

If worried about being run over, walk in the grass or on a sidewalk if able. If worried about being attacked, carry your keys to your truck or home with a finger in the key ring, and the key sticking outward between your middle and ring or middle and index fingers. In the event you are attacked, aim for the eye, throat or neck. It might be a bit messy, but at least it will be the attacker probably dying and not you. :)

I’ve seen some drivers where even walking in the grass isn’t safe

I do it all the time. Interesting to see all the different customizations drivers do like decorative lights or even practical things like where they put chain hangers on a full fairing truck like mine, or a nice tight tarp job on a weird flatbed load. I wouldn't walk in the grass. To many truckers who want to bring a pet onboard but don't want any of the responsibilities that that entails just let their dog's crap everywhere and leave it.

Your body definitely needs the exercise after sitting in the seat all day that's for sure. I always tried to find sidewalks or parks nearby if possible. Truck stop lots can get a little crazy depending on where your at and time of day. Also always carried a pocket knife just in case you know- Buck Bantam with a pocket clip is really light weight.

In a decent area, I will walk to a restaurant that’s a mile or two from my parking spot. When the food is killer, I will be bringing a plate back for later.

I tend to try and stay away from truck stops, but frequently walk in rest areas or at receivers, getting out and walking makes me sleep a lot better. Especially if it is just a mileage day. I will say considering I am up north all winter I don't walk in the winter, last time I did, I bit it on the ice and about knocked myself out.

I see drivers circling the lots all the time and always make sure to offer them a cigarette when they pass by my truck..

I get mixed responses in all different languages :)
