I talked to my son the other day, said he was parked for the night at a WalMart, (he is a WalMart driver), said he was heading out taking his walk for the evening to a Hooters and gonna suck down a few beers and get a meal. He has a lady friend at that Hooters, and a lady friend at another Hooters somewhere else. He is a confirmed bachelor, a very good trucker that I am very proud of. Over two million miles now, and looking for retiring early if he can, he is very smart with his money, always has been. Got money invested. I have another son that is running right now without a CDL, he is a drunk, used to drive without a drivers license at all, another time licensed under a name he got off a tombstone. Got another son got busted pulling weed in a tractor trailer and is now pulling 10 years in the federal pin. He usually tells me the truth, said he didn't know the weed was in orange juice containers under liquid, but who knows, sometimes he does lie. Anyway, you all be careful what is put in your trailer.

So...give it a shot. They can only say yes or no. You got 15years AND the record, and they are well aware there are bad jobs out there and people move around. But your years doing it with a clean record should be enough...I've only got 7 years driving the big stuff...and I got in. Worst that can happen is they don't call you for an interview.

OK.................I had taken today off to do something with my wife. As we were driving down the road, Walmart called!! Finally! I start July 15th. It's kind of interesting how it's going down too...I got hired on in Tobyhanna, PA, but I'll be doing my orientation in Pottsville, PA (as they have a class set up for the 15th and it's closer to home, not by much though). He (my 'new boss') told me that all my stuff (background checks etc) came back quicker than usual, which of course is a good thing. I really can't (still can't) believe this has all happened, that I actually got in with Walmart Private Fleet. So, that chapter is over, and the next one begins on the 15th of July. Wow...it's really surreal.

Congratulations! It is a little overwhelming at first if you are not used to using a Qual Comm, and the terminology will be new. But it is really simple once you get familiar with it. Have fun!

Well been a busy past two weeks with the holiday and back to school. Can't believe that it has been a whole month since I started and already feel like I should have done this years ago. Any way, my miles have been around 2200-1900 last week and this week. Depending on how long I have a truck for can determine more or less miles. Even when I don't get out of Houston, I can make good money running around here for 2-3 days. It is nice to not have any rush on any load at any time. Hot loads don't exist here. I really enjoy the atmosphere here.

Just wanted to say thanks for the info on this thread. Hubby and I followed it while going through the application and interview process. Got the call today and he starts on the 29th! It was helpful to hear how the process went. We are about 5 hours from the DC.. certainly not our first choice. After a year, he will be able to transfer to one in our town. (California) But it's certainly better than being self-employed, having to be OTR for 4-6 weeks straight just to pay Uncle Sam. Now we have to sell some equipment and then we can relax and enjoy the new job. Thanks again!
