That is why turnover is most always NOT voluntary!!! Without knowing anything about the pay, the fact that nobody quits should tell the story. Speaking of running around Houston; I love it when I get stuck in Memphis doing drop and hooks from the vendors to the Centerpoint at night. The average per mile will exceed $1 then!
(It is slower this time of year than I've ever seen it. Don't tell me the economy is getting better!)

i see walmart day cabs. home daily working for walmart must be good if you otr guys love it huh? not saying i dont like my job i do. but just wondering
-
Day cabs are part of claims runs and set runs. There are sleeper trucks on set runs as well. Those drivers go home everyday. For me, I don't want any of those runs. I live too far to be driving in everyday and home every night. Pretty much the senior drivers have their pick of those runs.

For some who wonder about being hired on as an "extra" driver. It is just a Walmart term. You are still a full time driver, and will run for 5 days every week, even when slow. I have been here for almost 7 months now, and the earliest I have been sent home was a few hours before I was out of time for my 5th day. They will come up with some pretty creative work, when it is slow, to keep the drivers busy. They want their drivers happy. A driver is not happy if he is being sent home because it is slow. Happy drivers are less distracted and work safer.
Bid is coming up. I really like my shift, but will put in for a few programs anyway. You never know what can happen. It isn't real easy getting on a program at my DC, but I don't care................ I'm happy. Many weeks I don't even have to switch trucks once................. and others, 1 time only. Not a big deal. -
Well it's hard to believe, having first applied April 6th this year, that I'm finally starting orientation on Monday. I'll be running out of Tobyhanna PA but they're having me do my orientation in Pottsville PA (home of the BEST beer!). I've been so wound up ever since I got the call for the FIRST interview. Not gonna lie, got the jitters and keep asking myself if this was the right move but that feeling doesn't last long, and it's too late anyway cuz my last day was Friday the 5th (took this week off). So off I go in 3 days...
drozzer69 Thanks this. -
Once you start, all of the jitters will go away. Plus, you will make more money your first year, than you have been making after how many years at your old job??
When I started, we anticipated a rough go of it the first year, as we really didn't know how the money thing would play out. Boy were we wrong. LOL -
my brother worked at walmart store level and he hated it he was a supervisor too. im glad they treat the drivers better. i wonder why though
-
Walmart Transportation Inc has nothing to do with the stores. It is its own company, and the majority of the people who run it are ex drivers. They know from where they came, and what it is like out there.
Do understand that not all DC's are the same. Some have fantastic GTM's, and some don't. Drivers want to transfer to my DC because of our GTM. He is a great, and very approachable guy. Our DC is one of the most innovative, and comes up with many of the new and better process's that are carried over to the fleet.
In that respect, it would be much like the stores. Have a great store manager, and your time there will be rewarding. Have an awful one, and the experience will be awful.mike5511 Thanks this. -
I am not a Wal-Mart driver but I was in a Wal-Mart dedicated account for over 4 yrs and basically did everything that a Wal-Mart driver does, store loads, claims loads, pallet loads, consolidation loads, return loads etc, etc... I have been in many, MANY Wal-Mart DCs all over the US, met wonderful folks, Wal-Mart dispatchers are very nice, very professional, respectful, efficient, laid back... their drivers are kind, polite, helpful... their equipment is the BEST! Shippers would always treat me very well and sometimes would be ready to load me regardless of the time I arrived, some would have a preloaded trailer ready if I couldn't be there on time... I felt somehow special... Everything worked just PERFECT! Their operation is spectacular! I LOVED IT! Unfortunately the contract wasn't renewed and the account ended for ever...
I think will never find anything like that again... It's like, the dream is over... must face the reality now... there's nothing as good as running for Wal-Mart the way I was... I miss that A LOT. Some folks ask me why I don't apply for Wal-Mart... Well, one of the reasons is because I was OTR, going everywhere east, west, north and south and I like to remain OTR... I think Wal-Mart drivers are regional, correct?
