My company has a reputation for micromanaging. I show up, I do what they ask me to do, and I make six figures. The last mid-sized carrier I worked for can do things to themselves that can't be said in mixed company.
Nobody at my current company would ever believe I used to have a real bad attitude problem.

I worked for an outside carrier doing wallyworld out of a DC. I even had wallyworld offer me a job. I told him wallyworld was too anal. He said: We have very deep pockets. Everybody wants to sue us. We have to be careful.
Well.... I'll give you two examples of drivers who aren't allowed to think. They can't be decisive. You must be decisive when driving a truck. The alternative is being unsafe.
I had just come into the terminal through a snowstorm. Snowstorm had just started that morning. I even had a cop cheer me on that I made it when he passed me. I was about two miles out of town. I was in terminal. Dropped trailer. Sitting in front of it. Doing paperwork. Had a wallyworld driver walk up to me. He said: I see you just made it in. I barely made it in. Bad storm. .... This was with him talking to me with my door shielding him in a bad snow storm. I told him I just barely made it in too. Then he said: I got a load waiting for me here. Ya think I should take it? .... I couldn't believe this guy was actually asking me this. I told him: No... you're in now... you're safe... sit it out till it's over. Take your load then.
Another one... I had just dropped a trailer. Sitting in front. Doing paperwork again. Had a wallyworld driver pull up. Got out and talked to me. Said: Could you please move? I need to back into the trailer next to you. I'm not allowed to with you here. .... Doh!
.
I don't make what those guys make. I'm not far off. I'm very happy where I'm at. I have my co-driver with me. I'll stay here. I go all over the country. Get to see great things like this:Last edited: Apr 9, 2022

I call bs. They don't offer jobs to dedicated carriers like that. The dedicated carriers are one of the reasons walmart wants to hire drivers. They want to give rid of the dedicated because they do a horrible job. Not to mention all the trailers they wreck.

They are raising pay now but when the economy slides I bet the bean counters will be looking to save Money again I think they are only paying more now, is the shortage of available trucks.
Big companies only do what is good for them at the time and I don't think they will find paying drivers more than anyone else will be in there best interest Long term.Waterman_99, Geekonthestreet and bumper Jack Thank this. -

Now I’m wondering why Walmart fails to expand their fleet. Maybe they have bad word of mouth?

In theory I really don't get micro managed much at all, but my beef is supposedly according to "Supply Chain Specialist" they only hire the best, but recently they've lowered their hiring standards, paid newbie more than 8year plus veterans that hired on through the old system.
We've experienced multiple issues with the lowered standard new hire steering wheel holding bag ####ters that would of never been considered before, would of washed out in 5 minutes, but now are given 4 days training to pass on boarding. .
I'll keep collecting a check and enjoying flying under radar and taking my 30 PTO until I'm told my services are no longer neededWaterman_99 and LtlAnonymous Thank this.
