ok, from all my research, tell me if i've miscalculated....

avg rate for big firm trucking co's is about 1.60-1.70 mile, including FSC.

    that's over 10,000 rig avg...

so, i'm at CRS(centralrefrigerated) 3months in as a rookie, ready to go 0/0.

If my best rate from them is .85 plus , on avg, .225 fsc, for about 1.07 mile, that leaves the company about .53 cents a mile in excess for there costs and profit....

not bad, but I'd like to think that (im my mind) a very effiecient driver should/could get 1.3-1.35/mile leaving the balance for the Co.

    assumption's are 50cpm fuel,30cpm equipment

i get paid on percentage....but heres how it looks to me

    i get 80%, company gets 20%

on a load that pays gross $1.50/mile ( just for ease of math) with a FSC of $.30/cpm, for a distance of 1000 miles

    to the truck
    $1.20 + .30=$1.50x1000=$1500 total
then i get to add in stop off and tarp pay

    out of that goes
    .50/m fuel
    .25 payment
    .15 maintence fund
.15 associated costs ( insureance, ifta, plates and junk)
    =1.05/m
anything over that goes into my account for future needs...and yes i know what i pay myself per mile but i wont post it to keep the jb drivers from making fun of me becuase they make more per mile...lol
    it comes out to $500/week

you've only got 3 months experiance?
personally if i were you i would hold off buying/leasing a truck for at LEAST anouther year, if for no other reason then winter is coming, and should you slide on ice and wrap your truck around a tree in say wyoming ( its a joke...everyone knows the wyoming state tree is a telephone pole), who would you rather foot the bill for a rookie/winter accident.
im not tryin to demean you or diminish your dream but ...get some more miles under you before you except full financial responcability of a truck and trailer, and let the company pay for your f-ups, if there havent been any yet there will be.
if you dont believe me ask around....in this bussiness its not an if type question....more like rodeo...its a when and how bad
anouther thing you probally wont like to hear...DO NOT LEASE A TRUCK, there are numourus threads about the dangers and how they are set up...these also contain alot of former lease/purchase o/o comments...i know theres a sticky thread around here about the fleece/purchase somewhere.
i really didnt mean to kick up any dust on this, but please, seriously reconsider until you have more experiance

With all due respect dude you are not ready. Once you get a few more months under your belt you'll see why every body that either is already there or once was (like me) says wait a little longer and get more of your learning curve done with some body elses money.

Gain 2 or even 3 yrs experience and you'll be able to do a couple things.

    1. easier financing with a better interest rate.

    2. a GOOD company will take you on

I assume once your maint. fund reaches a certain dollar amount you can re-direct those dollars to your pay account...?

would insurance cover bold item number 1

is there a truck out there that self-insures? bold item 2
or do regs say you must defray your risk thru insurance

    Bold item 3
From what i've learned so far about the l/p (which is really just a lease)
@ crs, or any big fleet Co. , the risk they take is that they have a truck sitting at a terminal not moving.... If they have a motivated individual ,(me) that raises there hand and says "I'm willing to sign a contract that transfers the risk of an idle truck, for a greater portion of the truck's revenue's"
If everything else is taken out of the rev's of said truck....
in the end I'll either profit or not...
Now, since being seated on a truck since feb 10th(trainer) and getting my own Tk mar 10th, i've saved $6500. So i don't think finances wil be my main issue.. it will be in attempting to be an smooth operator

Now , back to the thread....

FOR GOD'S SAKE DO NOT LEASE YOUR TRUCK AT THE SAME COMPANY WHERE YOU GET YOUR FREIGHT.

There are plenty of stories on this board and others of fleece purchases gone bad and guys like you with a glowing future and money in the bank turned into trucking haters with their credit ruined, their house gone, and bankrupt.

DO NOT DO IT. No matter how rosie of a picture your recruiter is painting.
Wait until you get 2 to 3 yrs experience and then lease with a good company like Landstar or others.

We are not trying to hold you back from your goals, merely trying to help you achieve them on a long term basis.

    Bold item #1-

from what i have experienced, it's the same exact experience every day...
dock, drive, dock, drive, dock , drive-

i think i've got it....i've had 38 years experience eating sleeping and crapping... is there anything i'm missing that i need 3 yrs of before i take the burden off the companies hands of an idle truck?
