I'm amazed to read so many negative reviews from drivers at these places. Are they really that bad? They all complain about working 10-12 hour days. I mean it's trucking that's to be expected anywhere. Then the NO family life stories. I really don't know what to say to that! Maybe you should have went to college and did something different. Bad management comes with every job. You might luck out and get a manager that really cares. In my area you never see these companies looking for front load commercial drivers so at least this position must be pretty good. It's usually the residential drivers that they have a hard time finding. I understand that's a very physical job, but is it really that bad to work for these companies?

I used to do contract work for Wm and republic, most of the trucks were junk and they are a poorly managed company and very fire happy from what I hear. Though some people do make a career out of it.

The Republic trucks that pick up my garbage, don't touch anything. Truck is air-conditioned. The driver is the only person on the truck. He pushes a button and the truck dumps the garbage container and sets it back down on the curb.

A co-worker of mine worked for WM in Central Cali several years ago. I believe he was mostly on a front load commercial route.
He says it was fast-paced and labor-intensive at times. He also said he was compensated fairly well.
From what he told me, at the location he was at, the newer drivers who busted their butts for awhile were given better opportunities on the route choices.
Essentially, there were some better positions awarded based on merit.
Take it how you will...truck6677 Thanks this.
