first let me say that as a general rule, I don’t use brokers. I do have a couple that I’ve worked with in the past that will call me on a local load every now and then though.

The broker calls me and says he needs a air compressor moved, legal load. I don’t want to fool with it because I’m already running behind, but the pick up point is literally 5 miles from where I’m at and the delivery is on my way back to the yard. I quote him $500 to haul it 40 miles, he agrees and says go pick it up.

I’m thinking one of those big industrial compressors that weigh 15,000 lbs. I get there and this is what they put on my truck. I’d think you could buy one of these brand new for less than the haul bill.

Looks like $1379.99 from Home Depot. IR is supposed to be good stuff, but the $4000 screw compressor we bought from them was junk.

Well, it looks like it is worth more than I thought. It wasn't new but still looked new. Still, they could have probably got somebody to haul it in their pickup truck for $50. They sat it on my truck and then I moved it around by hand to square it up, couldn't have weighed more that 150 lbs at most.

I have that compressor/ 5hp single phase 60gal up right. Paid 990.00 15 year ago for it. Have not done anything more than change oil. Its more that 150lbs but I hauled it in a 1/2 ton pu. But good for you. Their over spending is no concern for you! Good job.

Couple of lazies did not wanna fool with it with a pickup truck is what I think.

I feel burned or taken advantage of. But I will not willfully make too much noice but the rates have definately gone up for sure. serves em right for selecting big truck to move tiny stuff. Serves em right I say.
