This choice of what's going to happen depends on his DM and the safety dept. If he has a good record and wants to run solo, they will propably let him. It is possible that to discourage that they may want him to change tractors. It is really up to your friend to speak up.

    ANOTHER QUESTION lol
    I'm full of them today..
Bf is on the road and realized he left his ID at home!
He's assuming all he can do is stop at the next terminal and get a new one since he's 4 hours from home and running on a tight deadline. Too tight to turn home and get it.
What's best for him to do?

Company ID? Don't worry about it. He just needs it to get out of terminals and pretty much nowhere else unless hes dedicated! so he can just get it next time hes at a terminal

At wernr, idont see why he was even running teams. It's just a bunch of BS.

So as to my solo driving question. Where exactly does the bf pose the question to ride solo. Does he call up somewhere? Just mention it through the qualcomm?

He does have a clean driving record and no probs since he started at Werner either so I guess they shouldn't deny him if he requests going solo.

As for why he was in a team at Werner - they kinda made it seem like that was his only option.

But he actually thinks he could run faster by himself since his teammate liked to stop multiple times and liked to waste time eating in the resturants instead of eating on the go.

He knows they will prob take his new truck away and that's a lil disappointing but he rather be solo in an old truck than teamed up in a new one.

So who/how does he request being solo correctly?

He should be able to qualcomm in to his driver manager thats what he wants to do or stop in and talk to him if he is by the terminal. Most likely he will also have to change driver manager--he most likely wont have same one driving solo. He should be able to request it to his current driver manager.

well it turns out they're routing him to Dallas TX where a HQ is but he doesn't know what for; to give him a partner or take his new truck away and let him be solo.

At first he was really gung ho about being solo but his first trip solo they ran him really tight. By the time he got to TX from NJ (our home), made the load and stopped at a truck stop for the night his clocks were on ZERO. It was a very close call. If that's how he's going to be run he rather have a teammate.

Once he gets to Dallas he's still not sure what he's going to request or what's going to happen for him.

Do you all think solo is the way to go in Werner?

I've said it before and I'll say it again... Werner is a good company to start with. You run several days restricted to 6am to midnight. Once you have a little experience they run you as a team. Running as a team gives you the experience to transition into your own truck painlessly. You have the benefit of having a trainer nearby but are required to make your own decisions while he sleeps.

Werner has solid documentation to track your training progress. However, in my experience not many trainers use it to its full extent. During training you run hard. I liken it to basic training. If you can't hack training you probably can't do the job.

Werner pays you from the time you arrive at the hotel for orientation till you are finished training. Even if your trainer goes on home time for a week they put you in a hotel and pay you. Not a great salary but it beats living under a bridge.

The only improvement Werner could make to their training program would be to be more selective of trainers. Anyone with a decent record can be a trainer. Some of the trainers are not able to manage themselves much less effectively show the ropes to a newby.

I think he should give it some time. If he performs well, they will give him the miles. He will need to find his comfort zone. I know of some solos that are run hard but perform hard and some others who aren't ran quite so hard because they are more comfortable with fewer miles. Early on it is wise to talk with his driver manager and share his thoughts. It would benefit both of them to know where their heads are.
