I get my class A in two weeks. I am drug free, no record, good work history. I have heard that all newbies are going to basically get the same deal from all the fleets that hire students. This company gets you in your own truck in 3 weeks after training which is what appeals to me. Short orientation too. But I have read a lot of bad things about them. Is it a bad choice to get my experience with them and then move on? Any advice is appreciated.

All training companies are "your experience may vary." What concerns me however is your main concern is getting your own truck in the shortest time. Yeah being with a trainer sucks but honestly its a very necessary evil. If that's a problem for you, then for public's safety and fortruckings already tarnished reputation do not pursue a trucking career.

I think any starter company is going to get your experience. I have been trucking sine 2006 . I hate the thought of driving with someone that I don't know. Just make sure after short training period that you feel comfortable.

Training isn't my issue. My question was about western express. And through my research almost all of the companies that hire students put you with a trainer for 3 to 4 weeks. I am in my forties with a lot of business experience and have driven all types of vehicles. I am quite confident in my personal abilities and will know exactly when I am able to go solo. Public safety and my own safety is my highest concern. I can also see that the advice you just gave doesn't really match your truck driving experience. Thanks though.

I learned a lot in training but didn't need that third week. They only made me do the third week for insurance sake. They usually require four weeks, but my trainer said no way. Don't listen to blacktopjunkie. One of my concerns was getting into a truck quickly. Another was non forced dispatch. Third was home time. I like the freedom of taking additional time when I need it. I've never worried about this one day off for every week worked non sense.

I'd suggest some other companies before WE. I was going to go with Crete, but forced dispatch and lack of home steered me away. I also used to think Crete sounded good before the Cpap scandals started to surface. I'd suggest a smaller company. These megas should be your last application. Your first year isn't all about the money, but simply adjusting to the lifestyle.

I agree with above post. I literally hate training and after 2 weeks u will be fine. They just need to say you have that time under your belt. As far as we goes... every starting company has its pros and cons. I would suggest looking at a few companies, they all kinda suck but stay away from c r england. I would probably stay away from we also. Keep in mind that I know nothing about we but they seem to have a worse reputation then other starting companies.

Roehl you only ride with trainer like 12 days. Then they will give you a brand new truck. My brother just went though this was only with a guy for 10 days and released . Now my phone rings off the hook for me to help him

You got a friend that works at Western Express? What's he say about his experience there? Wish I had an "inside source" at some of these companies I'm thinking of going with after I get my class A. I'd trust the "personal angle" from someone I knew over any other avenue of getting opinions. No offense to anyone.

I was communicating with a driver at WE via private messages. He had a real bad time at first with a jerk trainer. Changed trainers and then very happy with the company. He's now in his own truck and content there.
Yes, go with a company that has a short training period. WE is one and Watkins-Shepard has 10 day training period and longer if you request it. Trust me, you won't need it. The sooner you're solo the better.
