As the headline reads…I’m just curious what’s the longest anyone has waited on an OS and D claim at a shipper?
What’s the longest you ever waited on an Over short and damage claim at a shipper?

Two days? Maybe three.
McLane in Kissimmee, FL. Got a load of chicken wings from the plant in Georgia; just 9K lbs or so. Supposed to be a quick and easy load so I can get home. McLane had previously rejected the wings, saying they didn’t order them. But sales worked it out with them and got confirmation that they’ll take them after all. So I get down there and get immediately rejected at the gate; load wasn’t on their books. Waited forever for sales and McLane to figure out their differences, but they never did, and my company finally sent another driver to fetch the #### wings and take them back to Georgia. I finally went home lol. I think I got paid an extra $200 in layover pay. I waited so long the reefer nearly ran out of fuel.
Should’ve just taken the things back to Georgia myself. Would’ve been home same day lol
Reefer sucks. Never again.
Recently spent 20 hours at Molson Coors in Ft Worth, first 10 they struggled to decide if they’ll reject the crap. Another 10 because they didn’t take it all and I sure as hell wasn’t gonna get slapped with the thousands of dollars in heel they left. Idiots acted like I was the problem the whole time lol. Get bent, do your job. Sometimes tanker sucks toohotrod1653, tscottme, motocross25 and 2 others Thank this. -
I'll say that every time it was decided to "donate it", I only said "okay."
I never asked where, I never said where I planned on donating it, I just said okay. Then, I threw it out. I always did this every time. And dispatch never followed up on it with me again.
If I'm not getting paid for it, I'm not going out of my way to donate it. It's going in the trash at my soonest convenience. Luckily I've never had pallets rejected, only cases so that makes it easier to just throw it all out. I don't know what I would do if I had a bunch of pallets or even a whole trailer rejected, that's a lot harder to get rid of.
OP are you driving reefer and dealing with the OS&D BS right now?JForce28 Thanks this. -
Had 20 cases rejected this morning and sat around 8 hours wait for them to tell me what to do with it. Supposedly they were trying to get the co-signer to take it.
Miraculously at 5 as they are walking out the door they tell drive 20 minutes south and drop the trailer and a local driver will deal with it tomorrow. But now I gotta drive an hour north to get my load I was already under and start heading southbound again smh lol
Oh and my 70 is almost out and now I won’t have hours to deliver tomorrow.

A. You're with a company that has local drivers and
B. You were delivering at a (geographical) place where it was actually feasible for the local drivers to get to it in the first place.
Or when you say "local driver will deal with it tomorrow", was it a local driver from the warehouse who was going to deal with it and not a local driver from your company?
If it was the warehouse saying they would have a local warehouse driver deal with it, well then you're lucky that your company drops trailers there in the first place for that to even be an option for you.
Truth be told, I can't say I've had many rejected items, despite doing a lot of reefer over the years. I would say on average I guess once a year. Not often. I think a large part is largely luck of the draw and partly based on who your customers are. I really wouldn't worry about it happening too often, though just be aware it does happen occasionally and it is annoying when it happens.
I'm trying to remember another example it happened to me. It was at some warehouse and they rejected a whole pallet of eggs. My dispatcher told me to "discard it", those were the exact words given to me. "Discard it."
I had been held up for like 2 hours from the warehouse and the broker and my company trying to figure out how to handle the situation and I was tired of dealing with the situation.
I can't remember exactly how it happened, but I got off the phone with dispatch and I talked with the forklift driver who I had been communicating with during this mess. I told him dispatch said to discard it. I asked him something like:
"Is there anyway you guys can please just discard this so I don't have to deal with it?"
He said yes there was and he could take it off my trailer right then and there. I said great and let him take it off.
Was that what I was supposed to do? Well, dispatch said discard it. And what I did was discarding it. So in my view, it wasn't my problem anymore and I thanked the warehouse worker for helping me out so I didn't have to deal with it anymore.
To be clear, I saw the pallet and even though it was shrink wrapped it really was ruined product with egg mix spilled out (luckily very little into my trailer). So I knew he and the warehouse weren't trying to pull a fast one on me.
I've NEVER had dispatch ever follow up with me as to where I "donated" or "discarded" or "threw away" the product. Never. Unless dispatch or the broker specifically say not to let the warehouse have the damaged product, then the warehouse are usually the first people I ask to discard it for me, especially if it's pallets.Last edited: Jun 20, 2025

BeHereNow97 Thanks this. -
I have waited up to 15 minutes before on an OS&D claim. However I work for an LTL carrier and we charge people heavily for delay, so it's a quick process usually.
I just put a good reason on the return form and bring it back.
