I believe that means you are considered an Independent Contractor.

It basically means you are paid without taxes taken out, as opposed to being paid on a W-2. Often is technically illegal but the IRS doesn't really enforce it.
-
It means (unless you own the equipment) that the very first thing they are telling you is that they break the laws by classifying you as an Independent Contractor instead of Employee
If they advertise they don't care about legalities, what makes one think they care about other legalities. Like HOS, equipment maintenance, etc. Heck, even when they decide not to pay you or you get hurt working for them (no workmen's comp either) there is no recourse.
No, anyplace that advertises as 1099 is a scam.Lav-25, Pumpkin Oval Head, stacks and 6 others Thank this. -
Not to mention, that a MAJORITY of companies that use this model are not worth working for. Trust me when I tell ya.

If you type 1099 in the search box, you will get lots of threads and opinions on it
stacks Thanks this. -
It means that unless you are an owner operator you shouldn't be working under a 1099. They don't hold out taxes and you will be paying Uncle Sam one hell of a bill at the end of the year.
Lav-25, stacks and Swiss Mountain Dog Thank this. -
A 1099 contractor (not an employee) is also more open to legal problems in the event of an accident, minor or major.
