All depends. Convienance of where it’s at, and what our Owner Operator is doing at the time has a lot do with how we rate local work. We don’t do much local work, just not interested in it right now but it’s not uncommon for me to quote $750.00 or more on loads running within 100 miles from one of our Owner Operators home base. Why so high? Because we all know how you can get hung up waiting to load and unload, not to mention getting stuck in city traffic. A Owner Operator running local must be compensated for that time and in my opinion that’s a fair day rate. What are the chances you’ll get two local runs in on the same day, slim. That’s why I don’t feel $300.00 to $500.00 is going to cut it And if there’s even the slightest chance that we may run out of hours, or be required to layover to unload, Our rate will jump substantially. It’s ok with me if they want to eat into a second day on a local run but make no mistake about it, it will cost them.
And there’s times where I’ll rate local by the hour with a minimum amount of hours. You know for shippers needing to shuttle multiple loads from one location to another.
