As long as they are making money with their Iron Tiger/Union Drivers everything is great but the sec things slow down and they start losing customers, they will through you under the bus in a heartbeat!
If you're going to be a deck driver then, I recommend used trucks with cold iron or, team driveaway..

Ok, Been with Truckmovers about 4 years now. I can't say it has been horrible, but I can say it hasn't always been a delight. They steal from your escrow when they can get away with it. Charge you for things like replacing a chipped windshield when all they really did was fix it. Bent bumpers (from lifting). Scratched paint, dirty seats, replacing a mattress they say you slept on it. (sleeping in the trucks is a no-no).
They are currently hiring as many drivers as they can, but don't have enough loads for them once they sign on. So not only are the new drivers are sitting, so are the ones that have been here for awhile. This is supposedly so they can win a bigger contract with others,
They talk you into doing them "favors" but then don't pay you for them.
If you undeck they pay you more cpm. But, the loads have gotten shorter and some of the loads are only 500 miles but the taxi out cost you $200.
If you turn down a load, they leave you sitting as long as they can get away with it.
Sure they fly you back, but this cost you anywhere from 1 day to 2 days that you could be driving, and if they don't have a load for you, you sit longer. If the plane is delayed for whatever reason, you lose. If the airline, misplaces your baggage, you wait until they find it. You have to pay for the taxi to the airport, or hotel. All fuel and DEF purchases are paid for by you. And navistar loads always require that you use only Pilot/Flying J fuel. Not the stuff that is .25 to .50 per gallon cheaper. Ocassionally you will get a good load, that is if there isn't an IronTiger (their union counterparts) around. IronTigers have the first pick of the loads, then what is left over the independent contractor gets assigned to them.
Management and dispatchers sit behind locked doors. Meeting face to face only happens after you have been cleared by their gestopo.
Did I mention, If the state requires a permit, guess who's pocket it's coming out of?? Yep, yours. Some of those get very pricey. Toll roads? More and more of those popping up every day, if you take them you pay. That includes places like, Peace Bridge, Thousand Island Bridges, places where there is no other profitable way to go around.
If the truck breaks down, and they do, you don't have to pay for that, but it an take a day or two for them to decide if they are going to release you from the load. Meanwhile, you sit.
if someone backs into you, steals all your tires (and it is happening a lot lately) or transporter plates. You pay, at least up to the entire amount of your escrow.
Okay, thats enough of the bad, now for the good. Hmmmm. You get to drive newer trucks with all the newest gadgets. That means, the anti-collision devices that lock up you brakes for no explainable reason. Lane departure systems, factory set speed limiters. Canadian trucks, are set at 105 km. American can be anywhere from 50 to 72 depending on the type of truck and area it is intended to be used in. Some of them are pretty nice, others, well. Just wait until you get a four-way assigned to you for a 3300 mile run, then find out they are garbage truck chassis. Speed set at 55 and only a 50 gallon fuel tank.
Also, don't think because you are running paper logs you are going to run, run, run. The log department doesn't really know much about logs, so they depend on a computer program that picks up everything, even if its not correct, but if the computer says it is, it's a violation.
You do get to see some really pretty parts of the US and Canada. Going way up into the back woods.. But remember, you always need to find a way back out and that cost is on you.
Why do I still do it? I really dont know other than the sky high hotel points I acquire. The different people I meet along the way. The lack luster pace I can choose if I want. I go home when I want, and stay home as long as I want. You don't get to choose where you go, and it seems like they intentionally keep you away from the house. But if you can by there, stop for a couple of days.

Most drive away companies are extremely high risk, low pay, with Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde sandbox mentality managers. After awhile you get use to the corporate requests to take landing gear crank handles off other corporations trailers because theirs are missing. After years of being ordered to drag flats, roll the window down for air conditioning and back up for heater. Brake pads that are metal on metal and dispatched from Flagstaff to Phoenix and if you refuse the corporation sends state troopers who claims company will claim you stole the truck if you refuse this load. 40 below zero and corporate bypassed the brakes air dryer to save a buck. Getting fired by a trucking company in my opinion just means their attempts to kill you failed. Drive away and walk back to civilization? Been there, done that, and got bonuses for death traps to the Jersey docks headed for Nigeria.
TruckMovers is very slow right now. They send you to Laredo and you sit 2 to 3 days in a hotel room that you pay for. If you are thinking of putting in an app. Go ahead, they will bring you on, run you on a couple of good loads, and then you will be sitting too. Better you go apply elsewhere.Expedite69 Thanks this.
You were a "Outside Contractor", and you worked for YOU.
Read your contract.
2) You did not move a load for a month (6 months), which means your CONTRACT was "terminated" for non-activity.
The contract is only for 12 month term at a time anyway.
3) You were not "fired" (unless you left the Volvo place after committing to a run).
By the terms of your CONTRACT, you are in no way having problems finding a job.
You can NOT be fired by TM, because you were never an employee.
All they did, or could do, is terminate (END) your business partnership.
Did you pay/re-pay for your A.D.D. Insurance while you were off for 6 months ???
Not paying that is reason to terminate your contract.
I may be 110,000% off with this, but I suspect:
1) you did not get your regular "gravy run" any more so you took off for the house pouting.
2) Then refused the hundreds of loads you were told about when you "called in" cause they were not your "gravy run".
3) Then after a couple months, you stiffed them on the Accident Policy premiums you owed and stopped calling.
Now you are mad cause they wrote you up in DAC for abandoning your loads (not picking up) and then leaving with an outstanding balance owed the company.
And at 50 cents a mile, they will sit there til hell freezes over as well.
You want your products moved, then YOU pay to have it done... or the CUSTOMER PAYS.
I will not support lowlife socialist democrat unions with a single penny.
