Most of the mega's have autoshift, and they are becoming more common every day.

ODFL generally no - you may have to slip seat and not all of the fleet is automatic.

Why not get manual on your CDL?

    No idea.

But if you want auto and an easier lifestyle on the road, stay away from those two.

Learn how to drive a manual. If auto only you will be seriously limiting your options for future employment.

These days, all of them. Big or small companies, except maybe TMC. Other members have more ideas as to which companies don't have autos.

I don't think his options are as limited as it used to be if he only knows hownto drive auto. I do think it's good to know how to drive a manual, but times have changed and are still changing.

Automated transmissions are now the standard for all manufacturers. Special order for manuals in road trucks. About 5 years back, was looking at a new cascadia, at that time it was $3200.00 charge for a factory installed 13 over the automated.

Limits your options to selling yourself into slavery at a Mega. I would suggest learning to drive a truck, he’ll have more and better opportunities. No auto-shifts in my yard, and I won’t have any. To start with, I wouldn’t hire anyone who doesn’t possess one of the most fundamental skills a Truck Driver needs. And good luck trying to hire Truck Drivers when all you have is a yard full of Millennial Motorhomes with 2 pedals in them. Megas don’t care, because they have no intention of hiring Truck Drivers. They’d have to pay those.
