An interesting discussion point here, what really does make a day off??
24 hours, or an actual complete day....as in: One finishes driving at 20:00 on the Thursday....does 3 days off consitute Friday, Saturday and Sunday and return to work at say 8:00 on Monday....or does it mean that you are back to work at 20:00....because according to the company I drive for (not mentioning any names but it does start with a j and end with a t....) 3 days off means 72 hours.....imagine the looks on faces when I say to my FM how would he feel if when he leaves at 6pm on Friday he has to be back 6pm on Sunday because 48 hours constitutes his '2 days' off.....

    hmmmmmmm....interesting....

I would be interested to hear what constitutes a 'day off' with other companies.....:yes2557:

It's usually 72 hours, depending on the company you're working for.

I used to work for a crappy LTL outfit where 10 hours off is all you got off. When you left the terminal your 10hr clock started! They expected you back 10 hours later for the next day's run.

I'm not complaining about my job. In fact sometimes all I get is 10 hrs off, but on the good side I take home a great paycheck.

  7. When I drove for Roehl, I would come home sometime Friday and go back out on Tuesday. If I came home on Saturday, I would go out Wednesday. I stayed out 11 days and got 3 off. Not too bad from what I heard in the truck stops.

I am almost certainly going to be switching to Roehl soon, so that is interesting to know!!

Glad you're not complaining Strngs12, and also glad to hear about the good paycheck. My pay with Central trans wasn't bad either, a steady $700/wk take home; but the hours were killer.5-5.5 hours drive time (to indy from detroit), wait in Indy for your relay (anywhere from 1-4 hours) and then back to Detroit, and go home try and sleep during the day and do it again! And the worst part was after you'd waited in indy, trying to sleep (in a daycab), sometimes they'd send us back with the same MT trlr we brought down!

All in all, not one of the better places to work!

An interesting subject. During my short stint with Swift they tried to pull that kind of crap on me. Got home at 2300 on Fri night. Was told to take my 3 days off and be ready to roll on Mon. morning.Because I got home before midnight they count Fri. as a day off.No bull. I called and told them I would be ready to roll on Tues. morning and dont even think about contacting me before then. About a month later I pulled the plug with Swift.
