What did you do before trucking? I worked in sales... got tired of dealing with demanding clients.

Social Services (9 years), house-managing for waiver homes (Medicare funded) which provided a domicile for the developmentally disabled.
Glad I don't have to deal with all the behavioral BS any longer. Or incompetent and always changing staffing.

I worked in the IBEW(Electrical union) before I got into this full time. Got my license essentially out of high school but took me a few years to get into it full time.

I was a machinist for 15 years. Can take a print, make a fixture, select tooling, write a program and process. Then produce parts in the required quantities. Unfortunately, experience and aptitude these days mean nothing compared to a piece of paper. More companies are managed by narrow minded college grads, who have been brainwashed into a belief that college grads are necessary to a successful business structure. So the pay scale dropped in the local area, and I have removed myself from the market. "Hell no I'm not bitter".

Trucking was chosen because in a relatively short period of time, I should be able to buy a truck and control my own destiny.

Did till 2008 when the market bottomed out. Like you guys complain about cheap freight, I refused to make cheap parts. These days quality comes second to quantity....

I paid a machinist in California $175 to do some custom work on an aluminum flashlight. If you still have a lathe or can get one there's lots of people looking for custom flashlight work.
