Ya know, that seems like the description of the engine @wore out had in the truck he wrecked. Maybe not quite, but similar.
Was talk of competing haulers #####in about that 'boat engine". Could have been...

 

My Dad was this way , never got rid of anything. It used to drive me nuts but I would stop and think about him living through the depression. I understand at a time like that you didn't just go out and buy something you made do with what you had.
I'm almost as bad as he was now. I go through my garage and a little building out back and haul off a pickup load once a year.

 

Hot and humid today. Perfect for chopping grass

 

I remember finding a can of bent nails in great granddads shed. I thought why on earth is he saving these. Later on I understood. He and Grandma had three (3) little kids when the depression started.

You wanna talk about horders, when my grandmother was told she was moving too town and we started moving stuff it was horrendous, we moved her .. mid '90's, she had seven freezers packed, and way outdated, when she moved to to it all went in the dumpster freezers included.

 

I'd probly arm wrestle you a bit for that, but way too far from the barn.

 

They saved EVERYTHING and would fight to keep it.
